The frustrations of a returner ^^
« on: April 12, 2006, 03:38:36 AM »
Probably you do not remember me, I was active for a short time but got frustrated and a little bit disappointment  because you kept making the game more complicated and harder to programm and I just could not keep up the energy needed to learn all the stuff(As it was always hard to find out the important informations or get a clear picture of what the bots do)
Well I got in the right mood and wanted to try out darwinbot again a little  , so I am here and man you just get the feeling you are all so far and unreachable ahead that it is frustating.

Well we will see if I have energy this time to keep up with all the stress the code learning causes me   , so hope the best and exspect the worst for me    .

There isn't much more stuff to add there, is there? When the last bugs are squished it can be considered a finished program. More stuff whould probably just slow it down, like putting new substances into the sim and make the bots do more stuff. I don't know. What I whould like to learn though, is what all these numbers and commands mean in the DNA, like a reference list to look at. I've gone through the tutorials but I still don't understand why this and that needs to be put at where it's put in the DNA because I don't know what it means. Right now I've been running a sim with really primitive bots, and they get mutated with some random numbers put into the DNA wich I don't have a clue about.
The internet is corrupt and controlled by criminally minded people.

Hi Welwordion

Welcome back. I remember you at least.

Since you were last here we have had a major blitz on V2.37.6 where we squished every last bug that we could find to get a nice stable DB version.

Other improvements/advances are being made but not in that version so you don'e have to worry about it going out of date or not being able to keep up. There will be no major changes in the 2.3 versions from now on but we will keep on supporting this version even though both 2.4 and the new C++ source code are being developed further.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world
Those who understand binary.
and those who don't

Hi Welwordion.

I personally havnt really tried (ever) to make a bot. Mainly becuase of I more interested in evolution and not direct bot making, so even that I reguarly check the forum, "playing" a little DB , I still wait for my original idea to emerge.

You are not behind, wait for the C version (but dont leave us in the meantime) and I think that the tutorials will be as numerous as bots them self....

It can be difficult to grasp all the ideas at once if you're making a bot yourself, thankfully we do have a few new tutorials on the wiki since last you were around.

Well the problem is there is so much I am unsure of, like the behaviour of ties and
I have not much options to confirm my suppositions without lot of effort.

Oh and Greven regarding Evosims, I still do not really understand mutation options and so I can not configure
it(this also applies to other options to some extent)

Confused about ties? You're not alone

I tried to make a tie feeder the other day and it drove me nuts    I'm sticking to shot feeding

I've been getting some good evo results with these settings (screenshot)
