Just wanted to start a slightly random thread to say how glad I am some new people and ideas have been thrown into everything... it seems the forum was beginning to stagnate. I definitely was feeling a general disinterest in DB  :(  but seeing all these new discussions has made me want to start using it again!  :D

Keep it up!
:D Ulciscor :D

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

I agree. It was starting to seem like nothing was happening here.

By the way, Elite how did you happen to find us?

I found DB through this webpage while googling for artificial life sims. At first I thought    :o   'this is complicated', but persevered to learn the DNA language. Every day I deleted the program convinced that I could never learn it, only to drag it out of the recycle bin the next day to try a new idea  :D . I experimented with viruses for the first few weeks, culminating in Superioris' virus (deletes ALL the infected bot's DNA but leaves the virus intact). My first bot was Animal Superioris (it's in the beastiary starting gate) a kind of hyper-improved Animal Minimalis with a virus. It delveloped over several months and helped me learn the code. I finally stopped work on it about a week ago when I started Una (then called Dominatus Hibernatus). In contrast to Superioris, the basic Una took 1 day to program, but was developed to where it is now over about a week. I joined this forum to share my ideas (ie. Symbioticus) and participate in the community of this absolutely brilliant program.

 :)

Why take so long to join the forum?

Makes me wonder how many more people are out there programming bots without ever dropping by to say hello.

This is the very first forum I've joined  :)

I guess I'm just a lurker by nature     :D  :P

If anyone interested in DB is reading this then I strongly reccomend joining.

I saw a guest poking around the DNA files the other day. We could really use more newbies here  :D

Looking on the members list some people have been members for ages but haven't posted once  :(

I've got a great idea for a community project by the way. Watch this space  B)

I think interest in this community is kind of daisy chain reacted with other people's interest.

If you get one person interested again, it fuels everyone else, which fuels even more interest, etc.

Liekwise if a person has to leave for a while or loses interest it pulls interest away.

Forums are fun.  :D

I hang out in loads of them.

Here are a few of them.

EVC forum Evolution Vs. Creation. I didn't make this one.

Spec-Res. This is a forum on a web site that I am in the process of building. The site is designed to be a dedicated resource for the analytical chemistry industry. Might also generate me a bunch of advertizing income too.  B)

Kuro-Tejina. Another of my fledgling web-sites. I am pushing this one to become a leading contender as the top MMORPG (Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Game) resource on the web. Not much going on there yet though. There is only so much of me to go around and a full time job, Darwinbots and three websites (see links for The Story Sanctum on my sites) is pretty much taking up all my time.  :(

How the heck do you come up with this crap Num?

Do you just wander around the web all day trying to find the weirdest stuff that you can lay hands on? :D

Sounds like you have way too much spare time on your hands. <_<

Besides, I like Feeping creatures. They are just SO cute!!

I have no idea myself really.

For instance, I found feeping creaturism thusly:

I went on to wikipeida to look up information on Maxis (I'm thinking of trying to become a game designer at Maxis.  That's the goal anyway).  Somehow I got sidetracked to the article about StarCraft: Ghost.

That led me to a reference about the long development time.  Specifically it mentions a Penny Arcade comic linking it to Duke Nukem Forever.

Duke Nukem Forever led me to look up Ultima 9: Ascension (which I have (and hate)).

Ultima 9, while it doesn't specifically mention feature creep, got me thinking about it (I knew of the term before hand) so I looked it up.

I never know what I'm going to learn when I go looking on wikipedia.

You interested in programming MMORPGs?

I have almost got to the point of beginning to break ground on my game. I am going to use Kuro-Tejina as a project management base.

It depends on the type.  I'm really tired of the standard MMO venue.  My idea of a fun MMO would be a vast virgin world with nothing but animals and trees and ocean that players could colonize and attempt to survive in.  Things like currency and weapons would have to be reinvented.

But something tells me that's more of a niche market and something like that probably will never be made.

What's really sad is that I've seen that article myself

Via an entirly different route. :)

Looks like Carlos finally got around to changing the old homepage. Good thing too, otherwise you'd have to go through the old forum to find the new.

I've heard something about Maxis coming out with a new evosim game. Looks like it'll be pretty interesting.

Have you seen the hour long demo of Will Wright demonstrating it?

It looks really cool.  I can probably find a linky if anyone is interested.
