ok ... which dude you be here:
TUX

Second from the right, in the back...  That was a spontaneous picture with someone just running into the dressing room and shouting: "Let's make a picture!", so I did not have time to put my tux on :)

There will be more (and better) pics later, we had a very professional guy with camera on hand...

Well...I take a peek on this site every once in awhile, but I got frustrated that there were some important things that I felt needed to fix, but somehow most of you guys don't seem to have any problems with the issues I have mensioned. The most important thing (IMO) is that one should be able to load a simulation previously saved. That doesn't work for me in version....2.37.....whatever... Either nothing happens when trying to load or I get a crash. Maybe Nums and PY doesn't think it matters if save/load doesn't work, but I think the program is useless if one can't do that. In version 2.4.A the load fuction works but instead the program slows down so much it hardly runs at all. So I'm wondering if these things will ever be fixed in the future or if I should just forget about it.

And then there is the GUI. Really bugs me, but some of you couldn't reproduce the problems I was having. So I guess it can't be fixed either.

Also I'm wondering if the new C++ version will run smoother, wish Nums says will be finished in middle of January.

sucks doesn't it!?!?
buku frustrating ... I know.
see ... the folks who already have it working ...
aren't really all that interested in the plight of us stooopid newbies
who have no idea what all these settings do or how they work.
so I think you're pretty much on your own. ;)
ideally, we will eventually have the basics available at the wiki ...
but I haven't had time to play there much lately ...
or share the lessons learned from making my own mistakes ...
and Endy has shipped out to sea for awhile.
am working on getting PY's bot tutorial there in total right now ...
just hard to stay motivated if no one is going to care if it's
there or not ...
ie ... if I don't see people participating at the wiki ...
giving feedback and making this a for real group effort.
perhaps I'll start a 'Complaint Dept' page ...
where any/all can put forth their concerns to be addressed.
hmmmm ...
not a bad idea.

as you know, I had many of the same problems as you in the past.
now this doesn't always happen to me with 2.37.6 ...
but certainly does on many, if not most, occasions.
I suspect it is because I am trying to load in a sim that either has
robots or settings that were not previously saved with the version 2.37.6
and since I have lost track of which is which ...
well, it happens a lot and simply freezes up my computer.

so I suggest you select 'new sim' and once you have it set up ...
save it under a name of 2376_whaterver.sim ...
this is what I do now ... and when I load this one in ...
it works.

same is true of having the required bots and settings in the correct
folder ... ie ... the Settings and Robot folders in the same DarwinBotsII
folder as your executable.
any of this that isn't correct will indeed crash your azz.

2.4.A slow?
well, from downloading a setting you provided before ...
I imagine you still use a very large field and many, many bots ...
so yeah ...
it will certainly drag along.
I try to keep my field at the minimum, veggies < 100 and settings
that keep my bots under 100 as well so I can at least run a resonable sim.
also ... I drastically minimize mutations ... and as a result no longer suddenly
get a bot reproducing 100 or more at a time.

anyway ...
use 2.37.6 to get a sim of choice working ...
save it ...
restart and reload it ...
and see it that works.
it does for me.

I have a couple of interesting sims I now run in 2.4.A ...
using the MultiVeg and some of the CircumOribit bots I have altered ...
so will upload that for you to check out.

and good luck. ;)

Let's make this an 'interactive' page and have some feedback, what say?
Anyone with ideas of how to 'fix' things is free to add their comments.
Everything can always be edited ...
and nothing is ever lost if you make a mistake editing the Wiki ...
so please see it as a blackboard [you youngin's recall what those are?] ;) ...
that anyone can write on or alter.
Can we make an effort to all help each other out here ...
in a central location that one can always find?
