Debugging
« on: October 27, 2005, 07:57:16 AM »
a proposal:

that we go about this in a logical and orderly way.

that we use the wiki in an effort to coordinate our efforts at debugging 2.37.4
as it is now, here on the forum ...
it is nearly impossible to follow/keep up/not be distracted by all of the posts
that are not specific to debugging.

check out the following wiki pages:
http://www.darwinbots.com/WikiManual/index.php?title=Senses
http://www.darwinbots.com/WikiManual/index...tle=Bug_Reports
(we can construct a page and bugpage for any modual)

here I propose we might have a central spot where these efforts may be
concentrated ... where one and all may have access to what we are finding
and what corrections we might apply.
and for those of us just beginning to play with VB ...
this will provide an opportunity to see how it works and why.

in addition, those of us attempting to find errors and bugs ...
won't have to keep reinventing the wheel and duplicating our bug finds ...
which get lost here in the forum.
this will also give PY and/or Nums a central location to check out ...
WHEN they have time to do so ...
rather than try to respond to us as we post here ...
or leave us hanging wondering if they got the reports.

this page is only an 'alpha' version ... ;)
we can set it up to do whatever we need to do.

so I suggest using something like this ...
reporting the bugs on the bug report page ...
along with suggestions for fixes perhaps ...
and then the experts taking a looksee ...
to give us amature bug hunters some pointers ...
and/or purposing a fix that works.
then those of us experimenting can copy/paste those into our own program ...
test them ... and keep moving forward.
whatever works.

I would have discussion here in the forum, and post whatever people finally decide to fix and how on the Wiki.  So the wiki becomes like a quick summary of everyone's posts.

The main problem I have here in the forum is that people don't just report the bugs.
They argue about them, accuse people of not dealing with the ones they reported and generally spam up the thread so that those of us attempting to really get to the bottom of the problem very quickly lose track of what the problem actually is.

Perhaps what we need is a moderated thread.  <_<

did you visit the wiki pages that are already in place?
this is the idea ...
a place to report the bugs we find ...
in as much detail as possible.
a central place for this that you {PY and/or) Nums can take a looksee ...
and either point/steer us newbies towards debugging or suggest a solution.
not as a place to argue about it as is done here on this forum ...
this is insanity here ...
but a place that is organized and address the problem at hand.

they are 'alpha' pages ...
we can make them any way we wish.

btw ...
empty your cup Num ...
make room for some ideas that aren't just your own.

Is that in response to a post I've made in this thread or more in general?

both ... here in this thread and in general.
a suggestion ...
as more than a few might percieve this as arrogance on your part ...
that 'know it all' thing.
in case you didn't realize it. ;)

I'd like to see this be a shared project ...
rather than your personal one.

but that is straying from the purpose of this thread ...
which I started as a purposal to utilize the wiki for something that we can
do there that is near impossible to do here in this forum ...
which is just a bunch of messages in a thread.
at the wiki ... those pages stay upfront ... and the info is retained for
one and all to access.

IF you want to work WITH other people ... cool.
and if not ...
well ....
then that's that.

Well I admit I've been a poor sport of late, but I think people who've been able to read my posts over a longer period of time know I'm generally more than open to others' ideas.

And I do know it all!  Hehe.
