Bugs and fixes / League Problems

Just tried running an f1 match with the latest version between excalibur and una, after the first round in which excalibur wins, it doesn't restart for round 2 and keeps adding round wins to the victor as there are no opponent bots left.

DNA - General / Are viruses overpowered?

I dont find viruses very effective in the leagues which is why I dont use them, whenever I have played around with adding a virus to a bot it always seems to perform worse, but that may be down to my design philosophy

I would take a good hard look at gene 10, as the source of the problem

Suggestions / Excess nrg -> body, excess body -> death

Neither of them have any body genes so there not really going to grow, Dark hunter doesn't have any repro gene so will never reproduce and as waste is disabled it wont die of it, Anubis Canis is so small in size and terrible at aiming that its never going to kill off the Dark hunters, I think its pretty much a stalemate. I think you could leave it all day and nothing will happen, call it a draw and move on. Also if they dont appear to be shooting each other its worth checking they aren't matching on cospec recognition ie both have the same .myeye value, but this isn't happening in this case

If you play one round of prisoners dilema the best option is to cheat. But if you play many rounds and you start cheating the other person retaliates by cheating and you both lose. A few years back someone organised a competition for people to submit programs to play prisoners dilema, the one that did the best was tit for tat, that basically followed what the previous programs actions. In nature its not just about one altruistic action between 2 individuals, its about the interaction of many. If you cheat someone, other people will see that and act acordingly. There were some examples in the selfish gene, I think of bats sharing food to others that hadn't manage to catch anything that night and that they would remember bats that hadn't shared, and not give them food when they were going hungry. And I think there was also another one about birds and ticks. I guess its kind of regulation by the group as a whole.

I think a lot of it depends on the level of risk to the person being altruistic against how much the other person means to them, as to whether someone does an altruistic act or not, but its probably more of a sub conciesous thought process

When I was talking about genetic relatives I was being slightly confusing in that I meant blood relatives, parents children, uncles, cousins etc. I wasn't trying to say that altruism only happens between blood relatives just that it is more likely.

As long as we have settings that most of the bots work reasonably well in thats okay, given that collision works from ghost -1 to marbles +1, what sort of value are we looking at 0.3 maybe 0.2?

With regards to altruism my understanding is that it is generally demonstrated between genetic relatives, the stronger the link the stonger the levels of altruism. So an organism is trying to ensure the survival of its genetic variation rather than the species as a whole.

I think old bots suffer from not using refvelup + refveldx, they go flying a long see an object, turn to face it and their momentum carries them straight past it. Not a lot you can do except maybe increase friction, but even then I dont think it helps that much

I think it depends on the bot, newer bots tend to have something like *.eye5 50 > .... *.refvelup .up store to stop them ramming veg, Excalibur + Ymir do this off the top of my head. Older bots didn't really slow down quickly when approaching vegs, which was okay in 2.37 when they might make 30 max, but now they go much faster its causing problems. Im happy for collisions to change if you want, to try and balance things.

Im not sure that its the marble physics that are the problem, I think its the fact that with max velocity at 180 bots are travellling a lot faster than they did in previous versions, where a bot might be lucky to reach 40. Maxvel used to be governed by the size of the bot but now seems to be governed by the program, im not sure. With the added velocity its harder to hit moving bots.
