Title: So I will know there is a reply to it
Post by: Botsareus on November 01, 2005, 05:32:31 PM
If you have time dude, I know you don't get any this days

Why do we need to look at areas outside the arena?

How does "the attempts to ignore errors" button works? (because it is NOT a tuggle button.)

Why do we need to "limit" program speed to 15/cyc/sec?

Why is my plasment control still not added (2.47) , tell me in two weeks , I need to clear my head.

If anyone other then Numsgil want to add anything, It will be greatly appreseated, because as usual I have no clue what is going on...

But seriosly I fail to understand.

Were is num comming up with all his ideas like: "zoom outside arena limits"
He is sertanly not comming up with this stuff out of the blue. Were was this idea discused before Num came up with them. Someone is deffinatly hideing a fourm from me.

I think it grew out of a discussion about an older bug with corpses and bots in larger sims flying off into the distance. I mentioned about how you can walk the camera to outside the arena, by clicking on one and following them. Since this is the second time a bug similar to this has been seen, it's probably a good idea to be able to check outside the box on occasion.

Man nobody's hiding stuff from you. Theres just tons of stuff being posted right now, both here and on the wiki. I know I've just about given up on following every single thread. Now I just check my favorite areas and occasionally pop into the others. Some of these bugs you've all been talking about for days went right under my radar.

Endy is right, that's where it came from.

I now routinely use this as my default in personal sims.  I zoom out a bit.  Makes it easier to see bots collecting on the edges of sims.

OK enough of this... people who come to this forum don't expect to be reading this kind of thing. If we want more people to notice us (including professionals) then this kind of behaviour is hardly appropriate.
"professionals"???
who's that?

Professionals: (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=define%3A+professional&meta=)

->engaged in a profession or engaging in as a profession or means of   livelihood; "the professional man or woman possesses distinctive qualifications"; "began her professional career after the Olympics"; "professional theater"; "professional football"; "a professional cook"; "professional actors and athletes"
->a person engaged in one of the learned professions
->an athlete who plays for pay
->engaged in by members of a profession; "professional occupations include medicine and the law and teaching"
->master: an authority qualified to teach apprentices

It would be nice if someone in the actual field, someday found DB to be useful in research. We're sitting on a gold mine here and nobody notices it

Thought that was the other reason. They do love those edges.

Just downloaded new vers, very nice B)

I'm going to persue complex adaptive systems as a Grad study very probably, so then I guess I'd be a proffesional ;)

They still seem to move about beyond the edges. Doesn't seem too bad for most of the bots though and it does help that you can still watch them now :)

When you become Professor Nums, think in terms of LARGE GRANTS for DB. :D

Yeah, bots can still venture out of bounds, but it takes a tremendous amount of nrg to stay out of bounds.

The borders are less like an impossible barrier and more like a spongy wall.  You can hurl yourself into the wall at high speed, and it will slow and eventually pop you back in bounds.  To stay out of bounds you have to push an amount equal to what the wall is pushing you.  That's not all that easy, it costs alot of nrg.

The simulation is a GLASS BOWL, right? Nothing should be able to go through!

Who said it was a glass bowl?

Maybe it's the inside of a hollow marshmallow.

Don't read more into the sim than you should.  Darwinbots is purposely abstract so you can model whatever you want to model.
