Title: Shots Collisions
Post by: Numsgil on June 06, 2005, 03:41:27 AM
Has anyone noticed that sometimes a bot will be firing at a veg, and no energy will seem to come back?  It happens maybe 10% of the time.  It could be a graphical big, I'm not sure.  Just wondering if anyone else's seen this.

Yes I have noticed this. Specifically when advancing cycle at a time to test venom and gene activations and suchlike. If you use ? .shflav in the console of the bot that has been shot you get a -2 value when it should be -1/6. Seems that the bot that gets shot seems to absorb its own -2 shot.

Hmmm...

Bug hunting here I come.  At least you've helped me narrow down where I need to look.

I just thought that the shots weren't quite reaching the target and running out of steam too early so I reset the minimum shot distance a little.
That appeared to fix the issue.
I never explored the possibility that there might actually be a bug at work.

What I've noticed is that a bot will sit about 20 twips from a veg, shooting like crazy, and the veg doesn't seem phased at all.  Then if you drag the bot a bit, he'll seem to snap out of it and kill the veg in a few cycles.

Now that you spell it out I have seen similar weird occurences now and then.

Didn't really take the time to examine what was going on though

There are alot of bugs that my unconcious mind refuses to let me look at conciously.  It know that it means alot of time spent, and probably tracking the problem to something I added.

Got to tell my unconcious mind to just let me fix them!
