Face it, they only had to replace the old Pope because his animatronics were getting old and worn out. He had actually been dead for about 15 years.
[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']It's a puppet[/span] ( Brian Conley) (http://www.brianconley.com/TV/tva.html)
[ramble] Not to be confused with Brian Connolly (http://www.hotshotdigital.com/WellAlwaysRemember.2/BrianConnollyBio.html), the lead singer of "The Sweet", an early glam rock band from the late 60s, who died in 1997
They actually broke up in 1991 so where the heck were they for the last 20 years before that?
[/ramble]
I liked old JP2. He was kinda cool.... for a religious leader anyway.
-
He was charismatic. But he was a hardliner git all the same.
Rest in Peace, old guy.
-
I hate all the popes
-
And all popes hate you :P
But seriously, what's to hate? Aside from the infalibility thing, they're just like other world leaders.
But this new guy... I don't know him from squat, but he has a really scary face. Kind of like some horror movie. I could totally see him breaking through a door saying "here's Johnny."
-
Then again, he was JP2's right hand man for the last 15 years or so.
-
I wont tell you y I hate all the popes cause I know some of you are religius
-
Well I'm a protestant so I couldn't care less...
-
Well I am an Atheist and I still think JP2 was one of the best people in the last half century.
He did nothing but good so what excuse could there possibly be to hate him anyway? <_<

By his permission and guidance many catholic priests in Africa were using their positions to convince people not to use condoms. Given a huge epidemic of AIDS there, this appoach resulted in thousands of people dying from a disease which they could avoid. That's pretty close to genocide if you ask me... :(
-
if you really wanna know why I hate all the popes, its cause they spread lies all areound the globe. tricking ppl to belive in things that isnt possible to exist.

But then again I didn't really pay that much attention to stuff that he did so I could be wrong.

It's only a lie if the person saying it doesn't believe it. And likewise nobody is tricking anybody if they honestly beleive that they are saving the imortal soul of all those people.
If you enjoy discussing this kind of stuff, you should try out EVC forum (http://www.evcforum.net/cgi-bin/dBoard.cgi?c=1). I hang out there sometimes. Some of the discussions crack me up. :D

This place is the EVC form for me. I'm that cool.

I still think JP2 was one of the best popes. he was the only one to apoligise for all the people who the church murdered :shoot: in the crusades(I really hope he really was sorry). But I would have to agree with you about the new pope, his face is scary. Did you know he was one of the hitler youth(that may even be scarier than his face). Thats scary one of our national leaders(and one in the church at that) thought what hitler was doing was right!
-
To be fair everyone and their dog in Germany during world war 2 were involved with the Nazis. Not much you can do about that.
Has anyone ever read The Tin Drum?
-
he was one of the hitler youth
Not that he really had any choice in the matter.
It was kind of compulsory around that time <_<
-
well I guess so...but still its kindof scary to think he was part of the mass killing of the jews. :)

Well, as a kid I was a part of "Pioneers" organisation in Soviet Union, which is kind of like boy scouts only with communist ideals and such. Would you say that I was part of all the atrocities of communist regime? I certainly don't think so. The membership was pretty much obligatory for kids. All we did was pariticipate in recycling programs (paper, metal), subscribe to a magazine (which was actually quite fun, with adveture stories, comics and puzzles), go to meetings where adults talked about peace and freedom for all. That was pretty much it. I did not kill anyone and at the time had no idea that any killing was done at all. It was pretty much the same with "Hitler youth"
