Title: fake mutations
Post by: Shen on April 14, 2005, 07:15:42 PM
Ok wierd one for you. Im getting mutations that arn't happening. That is, it says the bots mutated and whats its changed but its not altering the DNA. Ive attached a zip with a bot that supposedly has two mutations but doesnt actually have any a pic to show its mutation details and the original to compare with.

Hope I can attach zips.

I noticed that 2.36.1 was inserting empty spaces into DNA.  Not sure if it counted them as mutations.

Speaking of mutations, when I load up previously saved settings (from 2.36.1) in new version (2.36.5), in mutation rates for my DomInv I see 0 for "Insert new value".  Is that normal?  What is a reasonable value there and why it is not updated?  I am pretty sure it had 25000 there in 2.36.1.

To be honest I don't think any man alive understands what's going on in the mutations code.  Oh sure, the bits make sense, but how they all interact boggles the mind.

Blank lines are inserted wen a mutation occurs and the result isn't defined.

I noticed this one too in some earlier version (Sorry can't find the post I made about it)

this is what I saw:

- A veg, which was any colour, but NOT green (default)
- The mutation window stated it had lots of mutations

Yet when I checked the DNA it was normal and unchanged

It probably means the mutations windows isn't displaying the mutations, or the mutations aren't getting accepted into the DNA.  I've noticed it a few times too.
