Here's another oddity. These bots shouldn't build up venom and shell. Waste treshold is set to 500 and they haven't built up that much waste so it can't be altzheimers.

I'm afraid I might have fallen for this illusive altzheimer again. My guess is it built up a lot of waste then got rid of it just before I took a look at it. There was another bot nearby that had over 30000 waste! Strange that it causes the bot to build shell and slime and the like.

Not so strange.  All that has to happen is for a value to be written into .mkslime or .mkshell, which is exactly what altzeimers does.  The good news is that with the new limits on making stuff, bots are less likely to die instantly from waste overload.  They die slowly from nrg exhaustion or behaivour problems that turn them into easy prey.
