Whenever I try to run Darwinbots II, I get the error message
Run-time error '339':
Component 'RICHTXT32.OCX' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
and then it closes.
Also, when I try to run the 2.43 patch, it first displays the error message
Cannot locate the settings file
and then
Run-time error '339':
Component 'COMCT232.OCX' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
and when I try to create a simulation, nothing happens.

Are you running Vista by chance?
-
Yep.
-
Apparently vista doesn't ship with those particular VB runtime libraries. Let me upload mine. Move them to the System32 folder (assuming Vista has a system32 folder...)
You'll then have to run the following command on the command line to register it (ie: go to "run" and type this in):
regsvr32 [Your windows install]\system32\comct232.ocx
then type in
regsvr32 [Your windows install]\system32\RICHTX32.OCX
I'll try to change the download page to include vista instructions at some point. You're like the third person to have this problem...
-
Where might this System32 folder be located?
-
I don't know vista, but if it's like XP it should be in something like c:\windows\system32\
-
Apparently, I have both files, and I don't want to replace system files.
-
Then mearly typing the instructions Nums indicates should fix your issue. Let us know if it does not.
I bet Vista does not actually ship with the files, that it was the DB 2.1 installer that laid them down - it works fine on XP - but that there's some sort of Vista security thing that prevents the DB 2.1 installer from registerring them. Your probably not running as a local admin or eqivalent. There was a lot of work done in Vista to let users run at reduced privledges....
-
I did manage to find a page that says Vista doesn't ship with those DLLs, but it does support the XP versions, and VB should be supported for the life of Vista.
-
can't find the run.exe
not in menu
-
In vista, I think run is just a blank space in the Start menu where you can type stuff.
-
thanks for sharing!
-
VB is supported, but not source versions of VB (for VB6 anyway).
-
It's so interesting. Thanks
-
so that's why. thanks
-
That's great to know that you have fixed the bug.
Brilliant job indeed.
