How could we do that?  I think it's all based on the number of hits a page recieves.  If you really want people to come look at darwinbots, you have to advertise yourself.

I have a link for darwinbots in my signature on atleast two other forums.

I know a way to trick google to think this site is more popilar than it is, so it comes higher up

Cool  B)

Go ahead and do anything you like to promote DB. I'm sure we can handle the extra people.

I thought you had to pay to get near the top of the google list.

Note that we don't really use the word 'Artifical Life' very much in the forum or elsewhere, so google has a harder time of picking it up.  Our best bet is, in my opinion, updating the DB home page so it doesn't look abandoned.  It gets alot of hits every day, so obviously people are finding it one way or another.  But most of them probably think it's abandonware since the only news is years old.

That's how I found it.

You should probably update it with a link to the new forum, with information stating that there are newer versions that are very cool available here.

That is all there already. It is a bit hard to find though. Look at the "Comments" in the bottom left corner of the original review. They have hidden all my stuff away in there where most people don't even think to look. I have no control over the main page unfortunately.

goog guys, the more pages that is linked to this site the higher up it comes, hopefully google wont detect this. its so the more pages that is linked to a site, the more the sites which that site links to, gets in "value in google

It's alos based on number of hits.  I've seen this new forum increase in ranking if you search for darwinbots in the last month.

When you search for ALife on google you'll be getting back everything on ALife.  This includes professional research associations, academic institutions, etc.  Obviously Darwinbots should be behind that.

Also, like I said before, we don't really say the word 'ALife' very much in the forums, etc.  We're really just a small subset of what would be included under the title ALife.

If we really want to get hte message out we form relationships with researchers in the field, and have them talk about it and try it out.  As we get professional support, we become more relevant, and our google hits will rise.

PY, the HOTU review is as outdated as the homepage. Or, it was when I last looked at it.

Shouldn't be. I only put it up about 6 months ago. It referes to V2.33 as the latest version but does have direct links to this forum (not the old one)

Maybe it needs to be brought up to date a little but it isn't that old.

Are you sure you are looking at the right review?

You don't get to mine unless you click on the "comments" box in the bottom right corner.

What about just polling people about how they found the board and under what circumstances(types of searches, links, other forums, etc.)? We could set-up a general poll to make it less invasive than methods used by other boards.

PY do you receive a summary on people linking here? If so you should be able to tell by which method, in general, we get the most visitors.

All I am getting is the email and IP of anyone who joins.

Perhaps we should start up a newbies poll to find out where people found us first. Good idea Endy.

DB's New forum has seriously moved up in Google's rankings when searching for just Darwinbots :D . Should start moving up in other searches too.
