Title: Beginners Collection of Bots
Post by: Numsgil on April 14, 2006, 02:47:04 PM
I'm working on putting together the default install for the C++ version at the moment, and I need to have a small collection of bots in the bot directory for users to play with.

The number needs to be small so users aren't overwhelmed.  Each bot species needs to be fairly unique compared to the other species.

You can see what I'm including on the wiki here (http://www.darwinbots.com/WikiManual/index.php?title=New_Install_2.5).

Since the Bestiary is crippled at the moment, here's a link to the old one http://s9.invisionfree.com/DarwinBots_Foru...hp?showforum=13 (http://s9.invisionfree.com/DarwinBots_Forum/index.php?showforum=13)

After I/we have selected a small zoo we can make some interesting settings files to include in the new install.

I think the R_Fisannis is a hardy bot. When I've tried simulations with all the default bots this species is the only one that has survived and kept on living. It can be discuraging when the bots just keep on dying in the sims.

Oooh, SWARM is in there

Seen the new tie commands on the Wiki - looks very good

Thanks.  I'm sort of moving at break-neck speed.  At this rate I'll be done at the end of the week

I'll need someone to program a new Multi Bot using the new tie routines once they're programmed, if you'd like to give it a whack.

Sure, I can give it a whack

Why not have more people giving a whack at it, then pick the best/most suitable bot through a poll or something?

Hey, the more the merrier

Ideally I'd like a bot that uses the new tie physics to try and fly.  The simplest such bot I can think of would be some sort of squid bot that uses jet propulsion.

Here's my proposal (http://www.darwinbots.com/Forum/index.php?showtopic=1116) for a flying bot for gravity sims

Yeah, that sounds like it would work with the new physics.  I'll drop you a line when the program is that far so you can experiment.

what about including a viral bot?

I see that you have or are including most other types of bots.

I have found the viral bots one of the most fun to play with (ya I'm evil)

I don't know how well these bots will perform in DB2.5

I hope the F1/F2 bots won't be to hard for a newcomer to beat!

Good idea, and yeah, why not add a viral bot.

P.S. Could you set me up with read access to that old forum pls.

I'd be happy to, but before I go to the trouble, can I ask why?  Everything on the invisionfree forum should be in this forum.  The only thing missing I think are the file attachments.

No need then. I only wanted to access that forum so I could check all the bots posted there were available here.
