DB appeals to such an interesting mix of backgrounds that I thought I would do a poll... Just choose the one that is closest.

I voted 'Other biology'
I am going to study either 'Clinical technology' or 'biomedical technology' at the university of Twente next year.

none of the above. ;)
trained as a nuclear reactor operator in the USN ...
nuclear instrumentation and control systems since then.
always been interested in ALife ...
and computer graphics/simulations.
POVray ... raytracing is my thing.

Nothing to do with biology for me either.
I am a Research Chemist with emphasis on the development of Analytical Instrumentation and applications.
Programming and web design are a hobby that I have been interested in since the inception of the home computer in the late 800s. Alife was a complete accident for me. Just found Carlo's early version of DB while looking for something fun to do one day. I think he was looking for someone to hand off further developments to so I volunteered to take over.

I study viruses, so it's a mix of different things - genetics, molecular biology, evolution, populations.

Well, I'm a software guy whose parents are professors of Behavioural Phsycology, so I grew up with evolutionary exposure, and have always been interested in ALife.
-
I'm a pretty health equal mix of 1,2,5,6 and 7.
All of which are really ameteur interests (except general programming, which I have as a minor.)
For instance, cellular biology is high on my list of knowledge priorities, even though I haven't taken a biology class since freshman year in highschool. (Grade 9)
I've been programming, specifically game programming, since I was in middle school.
And I've been working on Darwinbots conceptually and practically for over a year, which has to count for something right?
A regular Renaissance man, huh?

None of the above :)
Another navy guy I work on machines aboard subs.
Oddball thing though. I've always been good with algebra and other abstract concepts; so DB comes natural to me.
Pretty handy with html and javascript.
Found DB while looking for different alife simulators. Got annoyed with Conway's GOL and other primarily code only or very very basic simulators. Found DB and knew I'd found the best. B)
