Edited by Numsgil.  Not really what he said, but this is much better

Hello everyone, Darwinbots is great.  Just wanted to drop by and say good work!

Wow, that's aweful nice of you.

Much better than posting spam, clearing wiki pages, and otherwise being a jerk.

Yeah, I had some guy clear some pages on the wiki.  Then this user here posted, well it wasn't commercial spam, but it wasn't very nice either...  (and they had a slightly more offensive name ;)

I'm guessing it's the same guy.

I don't understand why you'd be destructive if being destructive takes as much effort as being constructive.

the only reason I can think of is that its fun destroying things. Persinaly I rather blow up a house then building one.

From what I can tell the entire wicki has been deleted. Hope I'm wrong but I can't find any of the original SQL data files anywhere.  :(

Only because you've never built a house before.

See, when you're young you like to break things, because you view it as an excercise in power.  (To destroy a thing is to control a thing).  You lack the power to create something equally complex, so instead you destroy it.

As you get older, and more knowledgable, you realize you can actually make something that complex.

Which is why pretty much all people who are hackers/virus writers are between like 13 and 25.  After that you learn that it's a better show of prowess to create than to destroy.

Num this is very wise said! OMNS (Oh My Natural Selection ;)) this is really a wisdom of an old man!

(PS., it could sound ironic, but I mean it)

And no, I don't mean I'm an alzheimic ADHD kid.

Haha.

Just so long as we don't reference *.pain, we're okay.
Title: Man this progam is great
Post by: PurpleYouko on October 13, 2005, 09:32:44 AM
But then, the .pain memory location still exists whether we look at it or not from the DNA file.
Does that just mean that the robots still feel it but have no way to show that they do?
Title: Man this progam is great
Post by: Numsgil on October 13, 2005, 09:52:08 AM
Of course not!  Because, according to uncertainty principle, until the bots, or us, or any observer at all "observes" the value for *.pain, it exists in a quasi state of all possible states, including negative (pleasure) and positive (pain).

Thus, on average, a bot that does not check on *.pain feels nothign whatsoever.

I see. Kind of like Schrodinger's Bot huh?

You don't collapse the quantum probability function until you actually read the .pain memloc.  :D

Exactly.  Of course, now we're getting into quantum bot mechanics, which is always confusing.

why would *.pain be bad?  how would that be animal cruelty?

Did you read that psuedo article I wrote?

Post by: MrMound on October 13, 2005, 03:07:57 PM
wow that would be crazy if that really happened.  I think its really retarted that *.pain is considered animal crealty.(or is the whole animal cruelty thing a joke)
Title: Man this progam is great
Post by: Numsgil on October 13, 2005, 05:56:19 PM
Well, it's meant as a half serious philiosophical thought experiment.  At what point is it cruetly?  Pain in real organisms... how do we describe it?  What makes it "cruel"?
Title: Man this progam is great
Post by: MrMound on October 13, 2005, 07:41:27 PM
I don't know... I think pain is just part of life.  I don't think pain is a cruelty though.  when little animals play they are causing some extent of pain.  I think its only cruelty if you cause someone pain for a mallicious reason.  if you tourture someone then you're being cruel, if you are walking and you stub your toe then pain isn't cruelty just a part of life.

p.s. I liked the article

So then is forcing bots to battle to extinction cruelty?

I mean, I don't know of anyone that really seriously considers it as such to the point of not making bots to battle for that reason...

but it's not a far stretch of the imagination to imagine such a time.

Post by: MrMound on October 14, 2005, 12:07:58 AM
we arn't really forcing them to battle to extingtion we just put them in he same area as each other and they compete for resorces to the death

so I I put you and ur best friend on a island that can only support one of you, im not cruel?

I think that's the same excuse they use for cock fighting, and people still think that is cruel.

There really isn't any magic distinction, so I'll bet there'll be a time when you have people protest the "Darwibots bloodsports"

Ok whats this news stuff with "branden71" , "Jsquared34" , "Salmon67" someone with a random name generator?

About the Ip, Maybe It sayes "NeyYork NewJersy Philodelphya" on purpese to confuse people. Otherwise someone Tracing soft must be not so good if it could not track down the actual ip. (Unless someone hacked the heck out of a community server to make it do what he/she wants) I say we need good tracers for a start.

I think people prefer having a single username across various site accounts,  so obviously some sites will have usernames with lots of numbers in them.

I am not actually modding them but I am gradually adding specified words to an auto spell corrector. It's a long job but somebody has to do it.  :(
