Happened over night, so I don't know if there was something special causing it.

Bugs and fixes / Global mutation rates
« on: April 02, 2007, 09:50:21 AM »
Hi,

I recogniced, that the number of mutations within my zero-bot sim allmost perfectly matched with the estimated number, calculated with the mutation-rate. I used the standart rates (1/5,000,000 for point-mutation) and had an average of 190 mutations at 4,000,000 circles (DNA length is 231). Estimated number is about 185, if I'm right.
The global mutation rate is at 32X, so I wondered, if maybe those 1/5,000,000 are meant to be at 32X and I ran a simulation with a global mutation rate of 1/32 with the same result (average of 45 mutations after 1,000,000 cycles).
At last I ran a simulation with an oscillating mutation rate and watched the mutation-graph, wich should have built steps. But it returned a straight line so there is no change in mutation rate.
I searched the forum without any result, cause I thought I might have missed that mutation rates are disabled.
So it seems to be a bug, but I can't imagine noone else found this before.

I use Version 2.43 of course

Well, I had big problems in school when I started to learn english with the words: "gift" (english) and "Gift" (german).
I wasn't able to see the link between poison and a present...

Bugs and fixes / Div by Zero 2.42.9v
« on: January 23, 2007, 12:08:06 PM »
Hi,
In the options menu for a special species I get a div-by-zero, if I manualy disable all mutations, exit the menu and then reenter the menu for the same species.

Bugs and fixes / Overflow 2.42.9v
« on: January 23, 2007, 11:11:17 AM »
Hi,
it happened, after I played around with mazes and then tried to load an other sim.
Overflow occured while loading.

EDIT:
Just realised the safe I've tried to load is defect, so it might be a problem caused by my pc while saving.

And the 5 latest auto-safes are damaged aswell. So it definitly got nothing to do with the mazes...

Active/Passiv...
Sometimes it's just too obvious

Thanks

Hi,
maybe it's just a problem with the language, cause both are translated with "Gift", but I looked them up without finding a real difference in the meaning, but differences in the usage of the words. So what are the effects making them different?

Bugs and fixes / Crash with 2.42.9t
« on: January 12, 2007, 02:25:44 PM »
Sim crashed with an "Error. Überlauf. Saving sim in saves directory as error.sim".
Hope it's not a problem I zipped it with Winrar, but the filesize is way better...

Edit: Mh, no rar-file allowed  , well, then the bigger one:

Thanks alot,
by the way, how many Bots/Vegs do you usually use in an evolution-sim?
I tried to keep the number pretty low (summary not more than maybe 400) to keep the simulationspeed at above 50 cycles per second. Looking at your 1000 Veggs/Bots I feel pretty inpatient

Newbie / Shot Energy Exchange Method
« on: January 11, 2007, 03:03:08 PM »
Hi,
there are two methods:
Fixed and proportional.
The fixed one seems to be clear to me, but I'm not sure about the proportional one.
Proportional to what?
I thought, to the costs for the shot, but I ran a sim at 80% and it worked.
So what is it?

That's it

Big thanks

Hi Testlund,
meanwhile I have found "working" conditions for sims by try and error.
But I would love to have some other constellations of costs and physics, to compare with, eventhough I have still problems with applying the costs (posted at the bugs-forum).

Bugs and fixes / Problem with decimals
« on: January 11, 2007, 02:04:12 PM »
Hi,

I have the problem, that I can't use any decimals in DB, in instance for the costs.
Whenever I used one the costs are ignored in the simulation.
Taking a look at the costs shows, that the entered decimal (0.04) had been changed to 0,04.
If I now click on OK and reenter the costs-menu the value is 0.

I can imagine the problem has to do with the fact I'm using a german System, cause I can remember I had a similar problem with Excel once, but I don't know how to check this, so maybe someone else knows how?

I have this problem with every version I used yet (from 2.1 over 2.37.6 to 2.42.9 - 2.42.9s).

Thx,
Schigum

I'd be curious to know what version you were using before.   Thanks!

Mh, it was an 2.42.9 without an extention, think I downloaded it from the download-link at the Wiki about a week ago. Still have the DarwinBot.exe File, but none of the Sims wich didn't work fine.
One of the "Div by Zeros" was the one with the logarythmic agecost increasement allready fixed, another one only occured if the movement vectors where disabled, but it seemed to happen randomly, sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes after an hour. And I was able to continue the sim by loading the error-file (still have one of the error-files).
Now I'm using 2.49.9s, where this "random" Div by Zero not happend yet.

Hi,
my name is Sebastian, I'm 21 years old and from Germany.
I was reading about artificial intellegence/life and searched for some evolution-simulation, when I found Darwinbot. I was pretty impressed by the program and its possibilities (from "simple" evo-sims to competitions in leagues) and I sit in front of my screen for hours, trying to figure out working conditions and costs.
After I found some "Div by Zero - Errors" I decided to take a look at the Forum, found a new version and... cried a few tears, cause my 15hrs-sim didn't work fine with the new version   .
But I like it even more now *g*
I'll try to do my part in finding bugs and so on.

So far,
Sebastian
