Bugs and fixes / Re: Replace up, dn, sx, dx with fwd, bkwd, left, right
« on: January 06, 2017, 04:37:47 PM »
You could make up/fwd down/bkwd synonyms for now. When 3D arrives you can make up/dn acount for the Z axis, and fwd/bkwd for the x axis.
It doesn't matter if 2D bots are clueless in the x axis or z axis, they'll be quite broken in 3D, but the DNA keeps compatible in the current version, avoids to make DB2 do  conversions to keep current bots compatible.

I don't know how FTP works in darwinbots, but take a look if the library you use supports FTPS. It's basically FTP, but over SSL.

With SSL, I don't think intercepting credentials is trivial. May have to resort to decompiling or looking in memory for the password.

Forum credentials to log into FTP sounds nice, but I don't know if it's worth that much effort to stop a troll. Do many people want to spend time to troll IM? I think it more efficient to keep the existing system of a single user and ban IP's that abuse it.

Most important, make sure the webserver or even anyone running IM on their computers cannot be harmed.

Was the EricL FTP IM hacked?

Hard drives get fragmented more easily if space is sparse. And defragmentation is harder when the disk is full.

The FTP username/password shouldn't be in the sourcecode, rather in something like a property file which is not commited with the sourcecode, but does contain the credentials. So anyone without the password running it just from source can't use IM.

What are the security issues in the FTP solution of EricL?

Somewhat, yes.

Similar as to why it's important to have free space left on a normal HDD. Many SSD's don't make the full space available for that reason.(show only 240GB instead of the 256GB which is internally available)

SSD's of the last few years have such a high write limit, that's it's not a issue you'll notice. Competition bested all bad producers out of the market such like OCZ, I think all current SSD's are fine.

If you're going for a high end PC, I suggest to wait till AMD releases Zen. Going to be the first CPU AMD releases in years that will compete with intel. At the least it's going to push down intel prices a bit.

I saw your email. No, I haven't hacked you.

Side note: I don't know your twitter account. Nor do I know spike outside this forum.

I'm using random generated passwords by keepass. More due to laziness, than for having stronger passwords. I don't want to remember multiple passwords!

Uh, if you're sure someone messed with it. I would take precautions at once. I never had weird stuff like this happening to me, and that's weird as I've messed around plenty, in windows xp using all kinds of warez and no virus or other kind of protection. Did you do anything strange?

Do you have a password which can be guessed?

...Netherlands here. No, I didn't do anything. And Numsgil neither most likely.

What's the service/website doing it? What does this say?
Where/how did you retrieve the IP?

Enable 2 factor authentication if you think someone else is logging into the account.

May be due to different reasons. Due to c/p in the out folder or bots kept up in the server. I wouldn't say it's much of an issue.

If you want to have a clean sheet, I think it's easier to move all old posts to a 'archive' forum and disable posting in there. Don't see a good reason to do that, though.

I wish we had the ability to display fractions on this forum clearly (rather than having to go /).
I might be able to display the y/x utilizing inequalities. (Considering they can have numerous values, its probably the clearest display for them).
You can display fractions clearly!

\frac{n}{1}= n
Code: [Select]
[tex]\frac{n}{1}= n[/tex]
