Simulation Emporium / The case of blind Mr Magoo
« on: December 22, 2005, 10:11:13 PM »
You could give them a smell sense to smell -2 energy shots in a wide 180° view infront like sharks smell blood.

You could give them a hearing sense to hear movement nearby. Scares the shit out of them if they cant see that made that cracking noise.

A Touch sense is essential, it should not go on impact but on anything that passes by closely in a liquid.

Or simply make hormones that transmit all kinds of information, mark dangerous places, cause reproduction or make ant trails.

And now guess what, the blood of a cell that has 8 eyes smells different than the blood of a cell with 7 eyes. Same with moving noise, it all depends on the amount of eye commands in the DNA! Important to know what you pursuit.

One thing I miss is that eyes are not steroscopic, I would like to see 2 eyes that can tell the exact distance of anything that is in view range of 2 (or even more) eyes and a DNA code that can handle basic 3D wiew (err 2D, I just mean seeing whats behind the left eye but can be seen by the right eye).
I so want a MB with the ability of stereoscopic view.

Evolution and Internet Sharing Sims / so what are fair advanced costs?
« on: December 22, 2005, 09:46:52 PM »
so what are fair advanced costs to optimize evolution speed & diversity?

primarily to maximize evolution and efectivity of whatever evolutes.
secondarily to keep all kinds of populations alive without one taking over the world.
tertiarily in a small world with as less cancer and bad performance as possible.

Of course I want my bots to pay with energy for junk code by increasing DNA-upkeep (but still want to keep up to +10% junk code without certain death).
Of course I want to speed up evolution by making bots pay for everything that slows down evolution.
But what are the boundaries that work best?

while changing ".04" and "0.04" into "0,04" and accepting that correctly it changes "0,04" into "0" making it hard to retype all non-ingeger numbers again if you want to change it during the simulation.

In primordialLife children always have the same initial velocity as the parents, and it was important for the sim to have the up to 8 children next to the parent for their first seconds, till they start to move.

Bot Tavern / Morula Blastula Gastrula Neurula
« on: December 22, 2005, 02:57:40 PM »
Is is possible to make a MB that grows to a Morula stadium, cells in a heap tied together without being a mess of ties?

Is it possible to let that one develop to a Blastula stadium, cells arranged in a circle, hollow on the inside?

Is it possible to let that one develop to a Gastrula stadium, the circle of cells flips into hollow-you-shape forming some kind of mouth?

Is it possible to let that one develope to a Neurula stadium, the hollow-you closes on its open part into an "O" that contains another "o" (or hollow "I")?

would it make sense at the simulators point of state?

A Blastula MB could change its shape, make itself bigger or smaller.
A Gastrula MB could swallow other bots (A Blastula could, too, by opening/widing one tie)
A Neurula MB has the ability to develop organs, bones and a central nerve system.

A simple answere is energy management:

Photosynthesis does not deliver enough energy for the cell that does photosynthesis to move, its barely enough energy to reproduce self, and it does not have to move (only its childrens have to move away from the parent, generally done by wind).
The sun is not always shining, but storing energy is easier than searching sunnier places, that are plopably out of reach anyways!!!

Animals that eat many cells that do photosynthesis can get enough energy for movement, and they have to move to find enough food because it only grows were they are not eating! They are less dependant on dark or dry periods and more flexible in finding energy sources.

Animals that eat animals can get even more energy and have to move even more and are even more flexible (most can still eat plants, too)...

The suns energy at one place at first gets used by cells that do not move. Than it gets used by slowly moving cells that collect that stored energy from a few places. Than it gets used by faster moving cells that collect the stroed energy from a few slowly moving cells...

Animals do not develop solar collectors because eating plants is just easier and if an animal could do photosynthises its ability to move would be ambiguous like a whales foot.

There are also lithorve bacteria eating rocks and sand, they move really slowly.

Biology / Phylogenic Trees for Sexual Critters
« on: December 22, 2005, 01:29:02 PM »
There is a really simple solution:
Only log the females of the population.
males are just like "free radicals".

The fact that it gets really messy is the one evolutionary advantage of sexual reproduction.

Ever tried messenger-RNA (mRNA)?
Its similar to viruses, but send trough ties to similar organisms for good.

Biology / Death
« on: December 22, 2005, 01:24:50 PM »
When a cell dies, its biochemy stops for whatever reason, its larger biochemical molecules, DNA (spiral staircase, self reproducing storage of information), Amino-acid-chains ("tools" to transport and build all the stuff), polysacharides (energy transporting chains, "raw materials" made of sugars) and large structural molecules split up into smaller parts without getting renewed by the DNA and amino-acid-chains.

Generally it splits up into many small anorcanic molecules, mostly a lot of whater, methane and other smelly gasses and tasteless fluids.

Chains of at least 100 molecules, full of information and the ability to rebuild others and themself out of smaller molecules, split up into their molecule parts that have way less information.

Were that starts and how it looks like depends on the cause of dead.

main problems:

you propably didnt have biology ill 13th grade.
in evolution there is no such thing as the fobia described here.

In evolution reproduction and feeding has "strategies"; they chose in between reproducing a lot but investing little in the offspring (R-strategics like most fishes) and reproducing less but investing more (energy and time) in offspring (I-Strategics like most mammals).

IN GENERAL R-strategics are at the lower end of the food chain and I-Strategics are at the higher end of the food chain. I-strategics learn from their parents how to hunt, R strategics dont have to, they either get eaten annyways or not.
IN GENERAL R-strategics always have "shelters" hard to reach for whatever. intelligent R-strategics simply run away from predators into those shelters.
And even if there is no shelter, normaly a predator can not eat every prey because it just can not reproduce AND hunt fast enough to find every single bug to eat, that reproduces faster anyways so there is no shelter needed in the first place.

IN GENERAL I-strategics are hunting most of the time and have "trouble" finding a partner for reproducing because each of them needs a wide hunting ground to feed itself. Also growing children and teaching them how to survive costs a lot more of energy for I-stratecics. That energy is relative to the ammount of R-strategics nearby!!!!!!!!!

Of course there is a wide grey-scale in between R and I-strategics. It is independant of a life forms intelligence and complexity wich strategy to chose.
None of both strategies are better in general!!!!!!

->
there are reds and blues, both reproduce.
red eats blue and blue runs away from red.

The more blues there are the easier (more energy efficient) is it for red to hunt a blue one for meal.
The less blues there are the more inefficient is red in hunting and the less energy it has for reproducing. Blues do not have to run away from reds if there is no red nearby. Reds regulary have to eat blues or they die. Here blue has a big advantage in energy management and reproducing!!!

... > the more blues get eaten >  the less blues reproduce > the less efficient reds are hunting > the less reds reproduces > the less blues get eaten > the more blues reproduce > the more efficient are reds in hunting > more reds reproduce ...
This circle causes the blue population to be a Sin curve and the red population to be a cos curve (relative to the blue population).

The only problem is when reds population reaches a critical overkill mass relative to the blue population so blue becomes extinct but this does not happen naturally because a red pupulation evolves out of a blue population, so its normally smaller in the beginning (otherwise there is no blue to hunt efficiently in the first place) !
-> reds are a part of blues, they evolved from them, and in (the naturally rare) case they become 100% of all blues by eating all of them they become blues themself.
