When running a Sim (any sim) I can randomly get a runtime 76 error, I think this may happen during autosave, although it can happen in sims with no autosave and no error.sim is created. For the purposes of this thread I did a sim, it was a zerobot vegtable simulation. I am using DB 2.43. Note: im pretty sure it isnt an error in the bot since I have had it with several default bots.

There have been a very large number of changes since 2.43 adn it is likly this has already been fixed.
Let me know if this reproduces on current builds.

tried on 2.43z runtime error 76 happened straight away. didnt have a sim loaded, did not crash but was unable to do anything except quit using the X, quit dialog did not display. btw the error also says path not found, this also happened in 2.43

I ran your sim overnight without problem. Do you perhaps have one or more zombie darwinbot.exe processes still running left over from your 2.43 crash? The path not found error may be an attempt to load lastexit.sim on DB startup. If could be locked by another DB process.
FYI, in 2.43.1, the user is now prompted as to whether they want to load lastexit.sim at startup.

Well the error started happening after several non error sims, and now usally happens with all sims, so at somepoint I must have done a bad save or something, loaded bad bot etc. is 2.43.1 different from 2.43.z, if so I shall give it a go. I was thinking that if I reinstalled DB it might be fixed?

First try deleting or renaming saves\lastexit.sim and settings\lastexit.set and then restarting DB. USe the task manager to make sure there are no other running instances of DB first.

This means you have never successfully exited a post 2.43 version....
Try deleting settings/default.set...

I think I have exited 2.43 itslef at least once, but im not sure, and the settings folder that was in was 2.43

2.43 does not save a lastexit.sim. Post 2.43 versions do.

deleted default.set, still getting error in 2.43z how ever error has not yet been produced in 2.43

Can you tell me at exactly what point in time the error occurs using 2.43z? During startup, before or after the bots appear, etc. Can you perhaps post a screeen shot of the error dialog? Thanks.

error not recreated in 2.43 in 2.43z I open the prgram, says the is no settings file, I click ok and the error appears, I click ok and the program is unable to execute any commands. ie I can open the file menu and click on new simulation and nothing will happen.

Okay, gettign closer. Sorry to keep asking questions, but unlike most bugs, this is hard to track down with your specific environment.
Try this. Rename the intsett.ini file in the main directory of your DB install and try starting 2.43z.

It may related to the auto-internet mode for first time start up. Here's another idea. Try taking a sim - any sim - and naming it lastexit.sim and placing it in the saves directory....

tried and failed, also tried taking the last exit.set from 2.43 and copying it into 2.43z started it, setting dialog did not show as per expectations , although error still occured.

I don't know what to tell you. Since you are the only one seeing this and I can't reproduce it on my machine, it is no doubt specific to your install - something to do with your directory set up or the crash in 2.43 messign up 2.43z. It's probably a real bug to be sure, but not one I am likely to find without more information. Anything else you can tell me would be appreciated.

hey, I just got the runtime error again, in 2.43, but instead of it being purely random, its during an auto save. also sometimes when starting a new sim (after at least one other in the session) the program cannot find a bot file, .

you may have to reinstall, also check you installed properly, I think I acidentely added one folder to many. *when you reinstall your custom bots wont idsapear. Also which version are you getting it in. and which arror exactly, for me I had two error, they were the same but occured at different times.

Resolved no repro. I can do nothing further on this bug without more info and re-installing appears to have addressed the issue. Please re-open if it occurs again.

this happens to me still I get it a bit after I start it and then it just closes itself this is even happening in 2.43! I cannot use any versions of the software until this is fixed.
as for now ill use a older version.

It just closes itself without giving you an error? If so, this should be posted as a new bug. Have you re-run the installer?

no it gives be the error then when I click on ok it closes itself but otherwis yes.
I have tried most other methods here
