This time Hunter beat Excaliber 26 to 13 to take first place in the league.

Congrats, PY.

What happened to your avatar? Is it just me or did your avatar disappear?
No one else seems to have commented about this. I hope nothing strange is happening in my PC.

RNA is nothing in the lifeforms we know today, it was the DNA in begining (they think). but cause the dna is more stable than RNA it become the storage of information. now RNA is used to put aminoacids toghater and transmit information from the DNA, its mRNA, and what are the other ones?

I'd have to research for specifics but as I remember there are a large number of RNA types with the three most important being mRNA, rRNA & tRNA.

mRNA is the messenger carrying the codon codes (the three letter genetic code that corresponds to a specific amino acid to be used to build a protein) from DNA. rRNA is the ribosomal RNA which, together with lots of other proteins, is the actual work site for building the protein from the mRNA. tRNA is the transport mechanism to carry the appropriate amino acid for the protein being made onto the ribosome.

I am always amazed at the structure of tRNA. It is an elegant molecule shaped like a "V" (with different angles and twists for each type of tRNA) with an anti-codon on one arm and an amino acid on the other. When the anti-codon finds its codon match on the mRNA the shape of the tRNA puts the other end in exactly the right position for the ribosome to grab the amino and hang it on the building protein. Each codon on the mRNA has its own corresponding type of anti-codon match triplet on one end and exactly the right amino sitting on the other end of the tRNA molecule.

I can almost understand why Creationists insist some purposful itellegent design is at work here. The tRNA is indeed a most elegant work of chemical engineering.

Perhaps you should just select a range of memlocs you're interested in?

Select memory snapshot. A menu pops up. You input the range of memory you're interested in. Maybe like the print menu in windows.

ie: like this:
2,5,9-12,15

then all robots' 2,5,9,10,11,12,15 memory locations are put into a file. That way the file stays managable in size, and you get only what you're interested in anyway.

SOLD!

When can I have it?

Is Tuesday OK?

Wait till you get 5 or 6 of them and then tell us you are spending too much time here.
This place gets addictive.

I have experienced that.

Quote
I can easily enough get you a file with all the memlocs in it and I don't think it will be quite as big as you think, particularly as it will be saved as a text file.

No way around the numbers. 1000 mem locations x 1000 bots for raw data then double for comma delimited. 2 meg.+

Quote
I was also planning to save it sideways such that the robot ID would go along the top and the memory locations would go down the side. Figured it would be easier to do this way and I could also split the robots into groups of 256 to prevent wrapping around in Excel

Let me know what format would be the best for you though.

Straight forward flat file:

botID1,botName,mem1,mem2,mem3,...,mem999,end
botID2,botName,mem1,mem2,mem3,...,mem999,end
.
.
.
botIDn,botName,mem1,mem2,mem3,...,mem999,end

I've already built the utility to crunch it down to the data I will need and import properly into Excel.  All I need do is recode one handle for the specific format of the file you provide and I can be in staticstical heven.

Just think of it! The data! The charts! The graphs! Means, medians, modes, standard deviations! Ohhh I get all bubbly!  God help me I do love it so!

I gotta get out more.

And PY, what happened to your Avatar? A white box with a little red x? Have you gone sans avatrea? A political statement perhaps? A protest of the ever growing reach of the New World Order? Early onset senility? Is there great cosmic meaning to this sudden turn in the way you want the world to see you, or actually, not see you?

I do need to get out more.

Excel can only have a maximum of 256 columns so it becomes a little tricky to upload 1000 memlocs for each bot. For one thing, you couldn't use the regular method of opening the file or else you will get memlocs wrapping around onto different lines all over the place and making a right old mess.

This will take a bit more thought than I thought, I think

That would indeed be a mess, but please don't let that get in the way.  I've already started writing a small utility to contract a .txt to a usable form for Excel. All I need is the raw data. Nothing fancy.

botID1,botName,mem1,mem2,mem3,...,mem999,end
botID2,botName,mem1,mem2,mem3,...,mem999,end
.
.
.
botIDn,botName,mem1,mem2,mem3,...,mem999,end

Include veggies if it's easier. I can throw those away in processing. I can take all "Alpha" (from botName), pull the memory locations I want and write them to another file.

I know this is a "one off" type of request.  And, yes, I realize that we are talking about a file in excess of 2 meg for the typical sim (you will not want to add this to the present "Snapshot").  Not many will ever use this capability. Please don't go through a lot of headache with options, includes, excludes and the like.  Just a raw, here it is, do what you want, now go away, kinda file.

As always, I appreciate the effort.

Thanks all.

Oooh, Hey! I got stars! Wow! Maybe I'm spending too much time here?

It's my own *^%# fault. I just assumed. Almost a religious zeal of surity.

I've gotten around the issue of .sexrepro and have a basic sim with just the right veggie count, energy count, bot count, field size, working DNA, does what I want in the way I want it done. I can run a million cycles maintaining a stable population under selection pressures with no halts, crashes, finger pokin' repopulates. No messiness. I'm ready.

Then reality hits. Bummer.

Hypothesis

Certain sexual selection criteria will inevitably lead to "runaway" overexpression of those attributes upon which the criteria are based. Bird tail length being the attribute in my sims.

Female selection of mates based upon the males tail length is set within a certain range. Not too big, not too short. Random shifts in available males together with random shifts in female preferences would seem to produce a random mix of population over the generations.

Except:

There is a restraining wall to the left side of the curve. You cannot have negative tail length. There is only one direction for the "random" shifts to populate over time and that is to the right side of the curve (larger length/preference). Over generations, therefore, the base average tail length will move right (get bigger). Then, with female preference for longer tails and more males with longer tails, the selection scope becomes a self-enforcing cycle and will, in theory, lead to explosive growth in even longer female preference and male tail length.

This is an experiment to test the hypothesis. As you well know, in experiment you strictly control all variables except the ones you wish to test. DBII mutation control is too varied. It turnes ".tail_length" into ".mkvirus" or memloc "981" into ".up" or "*.sex 1 =" into "*.repro 1 =" and so on. You end up with females mating with females and androgenes creatures mating with everyone, including veggies.  Not very realistic in this instance.

Through the free memory values I can "simulate" mutations of my test variables more closely and more realistically.

I had assumed snapshot would give the bots DNA and memory values. I could then import to Excel and manipulate the data. Wrong!

I can't get to the data!  I refuse to go through one bot at a time recording memory values from the console for 600 bots.

May I have access to Bot memory, please? Preferably from within a .txt file like Snapshot? Please?

RANT / Capitalization of I
« on: April 20, 2005, 01:02:22 PM »
In communities of correspondence, such as the Web, the major basis for personal impression is one's presentation skills. Proper spelling, syntax, grammar, other mechanics, are the keys to providing that impression.

As much as we may protest, presentation is more important than what we actually have to say. The message, as wonderful, insightful, meaningful as it may be can be lost in a muddle of sloppy presentation. That's just the way people are.

Clear communication is the responsibility of the sender. There are rules, memes, to this game that are there to facilitate the clear transfer of ideas from sender to receiver. When those rules are violated, even when the meaning of the missive is clear, the impression of sloppiness conveys a lack of care, thus a lack of intellect, on the part of the sender and the reciever is apt to discount the ideas accordingly.

Webspeak is a further evolution (erosion?) of language with new memes for a new medium. Among longtime close associates Webspeak most often will not hinder dialogue since personal impressions have already been set (for better or worse). Even within this context the responsibility to effectively communicate is on the sender and the personal impression by the reciever of the sender is a vital component.

The new memes of Webspeak are still under construction and test as evidenced by this whole thread. Some of the "shortcuts," such as "I" instead of "I" or "you" in place of "you" are meeting resistance as detractores. "BTW" (by the way) and "IMO" (in my opinion) are two that have gained acceptance but only in informal use.

The upshot is that if you want to have good stnading in the comunity and have you'r ideas accepted with value you can't just say good stuff you gotta spell rite, use the write words and poofreed ur work so you look good to!

As alway, verbosely yours,

Nor would I expect it to be. The robot that you have selected is not facing any other bot so *.refvel will be a memory of the last thing it saw, just as all the other refvars are. There is no "correct" unless you have a robot currently in eye5.

Look at the screen shot again.

The top (blue) bot is looking at the bottom (red) bot with eye4,5,6 at 35 and .refvel -15.  Top console is from the blue bot, bottom console from the red.

The 'select' (white) circle is a leftover. I had the blue bot selected when the top console was populated and the red one selected when the bottom console was populated.

That is a nice feature, btw. I can watch the consoles on multiple bots simultaneously and hitting 'cycle' on any one cycles the whole sim and repopulates all the individual consoles.

OK I checked the code on my 2.36.5 and it looks perfect.

I uploaded the executable again to the "Old FTP Server" as the source still differs very slightly from the "official" version

This time the caption in the top left of the screen clearly reads V2.36.5 so you will know you have the right version.

Thank you, muchly.  I'll d/l 2.36.5 from the old server (why are there two?) and try again.

Please don't start on Sexrepro!

We haven't worked on that for SOOOOO long. Mainly because of a lack of agreement on how it should work. It has long been acknowledged that this area needs a lot of work but we need to know how to progress with it.

By all means start your own thread on how to address this issue and we will try to come to a consensus on the best way forward.

Been there, done that.  Check "Suggestions" forum ".sexrepro" March 23.

Time's a flyin'. Gotta git.

I do thank you for your time.

I am so sorry for this.

I know y'all work hard on this program and have great and exciting plans for future capabilities. This small carpolla keeps getting in the way.

I loaded 2.36.5 [you]after[/you] PY's and Num's exchange of messages about the posted 2.36.5 not having the speed fix and PY's quick upload of the fixed 2.36.5 code.

BTW, how can I tell the level of the executable?  The size is the same as 2.36.4 and the date is today (well, yesterday by now).

I have the same velocity issue with .vel exceeding .maxvel and .refvel not even close to correct.

I think I've attached a [you]small unobtrusive well-within-limits unzipped uncontaminated[/you] screenshot.

Again, I'm so sorry for being such a pain in the tookis. And I want you to take notice of the fact that I didn't even mention .sexrepro.

OK, I'll try to get all this across, again, without having the site blow up at me.

As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted:

Sorry PY,

I am still having the same velocity issue in 2.36.4.  Maybe it is me.

Once I've loaded this I'll d/l and test. I may send up individual files if this does not work.

This one contains two bots, settings and 2 (not 3, Forum Mgr, just 2) screenshots of sim consoles.

IF I CAN GET OVER THE *&%## FORUM restrictions this may actually load.

And away we go.

-P

I always thought 96k was LESS than 100k. I guess the Forum Mgr has some advanced math training I missed.

Alright...how bout two bots, settings and 1 (ONE %&**@# MEASLY) screenshot.

Hmmm...invalid or corrupted.  Try this.

FUCK IT!

Can anyone download that zip OK?

It downloaded OK but unzipped into a folder containing one file full of garbled, unusable nonsense.

No robot files
No settings file

I just downloaded and got 0 files myself. Says file is corrupted. Strange, Shvarz got it.

BTY, I'm using Window XP Pro

Well, since 2.36.4 is out I'll try that first before going any further.
