Hey everyone. I'm biting the bullet and making the transition to a different host. The current plan expires at the end of March, so this makes good timing.
Starting probably either next Friday night PST or Saturday morning PST the web site is down (http://www.thewebsiteisdown.com/). I don't make any promises for when it will be back up. I'll try to get everything up before Monday, but I can't promise anything since I have to work during the week. If it takes longer than the weekend, it could run to be a week or two outage.
During this downtime, everything will be down. Forums, wiki, IM, etc. It also will probably come up in stages when I get it working (forum first probably, then wiki, then IM).
I'll post here again on Friday morning to warn everyone. I'll also try to postpone taking the forums offline for as long as possible.

I licensed the new server today. Things are on track.
If anyone uploads any files between now and whenever I say this is done, I can't guarantee they'll make it on to the new server (I'll take the forum down when posting is in danger).
Also, this is the relevant thread (http://www.darwinbots.com/Forum/index.php?showtopic=3211&st=0&gopid=1381770&#entry1381770) for tracking progress (obviously I won't be posting to it when the forum is down).

If you can see this announcement, you're on the right board.
I still need to update the wiki to the new site, and fix up the DNS so Darwinbots.com points to the right place.
-
DNS is set up. Wiki is set up. Testing uploads for forum.
-
What's the status of the SVN and IM?
-
Not done yet
-
Okay, I can't figure out uploads just yet. So they'll be broken for a while.
-
Following are known to be broken or still need doing (please let me know if something isn't on the list):
1. The forum won't send out emails anymore (I've checked and the server sends out emails just fine. So there's probably a setting I need to change somewhere).
2. Uploads are broken (can't upload files. Gives an error).
3. Need to install an SVN server
4.
5. chat.darwinbots.com no longer works (says server can't be found)
6. Need to make an actual 404 error page
I'm exhausted. Other than internet mode most everything else will have to wait till next weekend.
-
Theres a "chat.darwinbots.com"?
-
A developer chat, yeah. With the new server I'm going to try and expand it to a general IRC, though.
-
oooh IRC that'd be cool.
-
Internet Mode should be working now (I can't test it (at work) but I think things are set up correctly). Let me know if that's not the case.
It should also be far less buggy, since the new server isn't so picky about too many simultaneous connections or too many non closed connections.

3/1/2010 4:14:32 PM: Fruit_Fliesv0.21.txt teleported in from Sammeh
3/1/2010 4:14:32 PM: HSVirLite2.txt teleported in from Sammeh

It's working!!
Well, mostly. I'm still getting a lot of "Error Downloading Pop files" and "Time out disconnecting". But it works!
By the way, HSVirLight2 got smashed by heavily mutated SF2's almost as soon as it got in. Sorry.

Yeah, I'm getting the same messages. I think that's more a problem with DB2's code than the actual server though. Also
-
IM seems broke again.
-
The server end of things seems fine. Not sure what the problem is. Maybe we've reached the hard disk limit we set up on the server Sammeh?
-
I moved some bulky files. Try it now.

How much space do we have? I'll have a look and remove some crap we dont need
-
Many many gigs. But if you set up hard disk size limiting for the IM FTP user, that might have something to do with it. If not, I'm not sure.
I cleaned out things quite a bit last weekend.

I didn't, I thought we'd try the http method. I have noticed in the security logs a whole load of bruteforce attempts on both SSH and FTP, most of them coming from the same 3 IP addresses. It could be that. Have you a time and date for when the FTP went down? I'll check it against the logs and see.
-
Noticed those attempts, too. I don't think it's causing problems, though. Looks like the failed attempts are separated by several seconds.

That's very odd then. An intermittent FTP problem that happened on the old server and the new server? The only thing common is the program and the domain name.
-
Sounds like thats my sim, it keeps failing to connect.
-
Have you reset the program since the problem started?
-
I tried to fix uploads, but it didn't seem to work. Househalter, I think you had some posts that are gone now that you posted in the last hour or so. Sorry about that... :/
-
Ya, I think at least one of them is. I posted an evolved version of HSLS. I can repost it tommorow when it will be even more evolved
-
Uploads work again.
-
Emails from the forum are working again. In particular, this was causing users to be unable to register. This should be fixed now.
-
Well now I know what you have been up to Numsgil. The chat.darwinbots.com is a great idea. How do I get in on that?
Good work.
-
Unfortunately it's down at the moment... But I'll have some time this weekend to try and get stuff working (the SVN should be down right now as well).
-
Images can be uploaded to the wiki again.
I don't know if I'll get to the SVN or not.
