Evolution and Internet Sharing Sims / Canni sim
« on: June 02, 2005, 04:46:13 PM »
Your mutant vegs is another example of the greatness of cannis heh. The veggies moved the goalposts on evolution.

For example my pred/prey cycle is fairly well tweaked. My bots have only basic navigation genes they cant accurately move at high speeds, especially in KE mode. This means that slower bots have the advantage during Veggie Highs as they can catch, eat and reproduce more. However once the cycle turns down there are several hundred bots and only a few dozen veggies a faster bot has the advantage.

After 10million cycles they have reached an equalibrium with their enviroment. Successful bots can reproduce quickly on veg highs and survive the cannibalism after the food has run out.

I might try mutant veggies now, Im using a modified Alga_Ansty which should do something cool. :D

What I'm trying to say is that using a arbitrary value such as number of eyes or aimdx commands is just as bad as say.. me being attacked by people in the street because I have a big nose.

Development of a bots eyes would be restricted if *.refeye is used, not because having more eyes is intrinsically worse but for no other reason than its different from the parents.

True, mutants or runts are eaten by there mothers sometimes but there are many shades of grey that using a essentially meaningless value doesn't reflect.

Imo running cannibots in evo sims is much more interesting than running an advanced well written bot. I dont see why bots would have conspec genes IRL, having a child avoidance gene is much more 'real'. Your distraction gene is a good example, has that devolved at all?

Personally I use *.numties 0 = to deactivate condidtions when bots have just reproduced and I've NEVER had a successful bot get rid of them. In fact my current Sim is going on for 5000 generations at 10K mutation rate and the child avoidance condition is just about the only unmutated part of its genome.

Old Suggestions Awaiting Programming / CPU Usage
« on: June 01, 2005, 11:15:47 AM »
Just a minor request. Would it be possible to limit the amount of CPU time DB uses? With the new stealth mode (like it!) and the fact that long running evo sims tend to completely disable my comp for other uses, the ability to set DB to only use a set amount of CPU time would be mega useful so I can 'Sim and Forget' so to speak.

Hey there guys. Havnt posted in for a bit, exams and all. Im really interested in running a decent internet sharing sim. If shvarz or anyone wants to kind of syncronize settings or bots them im well up for it. Ill try running Ternia for now, not much is going to take over those settings :D

Hmm its not something to do with waste is it? They seem to store a value into memloc 1 which is .up. So do they just run past each other?

Believing evolution and believing in God arnt mutually exclusive. Like PY said, obviously evolution happens, FACT. The only people who deny it are the kind of people who think the Earth is only 5,000 years old and cant accept that God might work in ways not described in the good book.

Whos to say God didnt drop his sandwich on Earth, forget about it for 4 billion years and come back to find it evolved into curious monkeys.

Yup Im running 2.3.5. I have a wierd feeling it might be somethig to do with the graphs, it seems to run a lot longer when I dont open the at all. Oh well Ill do some investigating.

How often did you get crashes in your sims, how long did you run them for? I only ask because im getting overflows after 200k cycles. :/

Well I do have one idea why is better. One of the first things my bot did was to split the waste removal gene so it constantly store *.waste .shootval store in a gene with no conditions. Remember that Dom Inv doesnt use the use powered up shots so doing that would give the curious effect of making bots more powerful as they get older and consume more energy.

Could be an explanation to why it lost its -4 shots. Havnt looked through the code yet though.

I agree, just post that sucker. Im dieing to see what a complex bot turns into over a long sim.

My own has been going for about 50 million cycles now (only 4 crashes!) and I cant even figure out how my little suckers reproduce anymore.

Its exam time for moi. Revision is taking far to much time away from DB time, I should get my priorities right. :)

RANT / Who would you vote for...
« on: May 03, 2005, 11:51:35 AM »
I'm not having a go at pensioners PY :P When I say free money Im reffering to the parties bribes to get pensioners to vote for them, not recieveing the pensions they paid into. I even agree that the state pension is just dumb. Im saying the government should be doing something about it so its not me that ends up paying the bill at the end of the day.

As you probably know the population is ageing in western countries and people are living a lot longer. This means that there are more pensioners for people of working age to support. So just how is the state going to fork out an ever increasing amount of cash to more people when they are getting reduced income from taxes due to less people of working age?

There are three real options.
1) Increase taxes for me
2) Decrease pensions
3) Increase the retirement age

None of them are good options but if no action is taken then the problem will just keep getting worse until we get a variety of nasty scenarios.

Also you may not be up on recent events over this side of the pond. Most of the private pension schemes have either gone bust or given very poor returns due to the stock market crashes, saying people should have invested in private pensions would mean there would be even more people relying on the state for support. The current shortfall in private pensions is £160 billion (count it).

You add all this up and then note the fact instead of taking action to reduce the future costs they are increasing pensions, giving tax breaks, handing out bribes (literally) and have already backed down from making the public sector retirement age 65, your left with the fact that not only are they doing nothing to solve the problem they are actively making it worse for there own short term political gain.

Maybe this should be moved to the Rant forum :D

As the others said, 1100+ is nothing. If you removed all the various combat stuff, venom, shell etc then it would go a lot higher. Though it is very efficient anyway because sgn abs etc dont use nrg.

And yeah, your comp looks like 5+ years old. you ran that for an hour and only got 3000 cycles? wtf.

All the parties suck. None of them will ever represent younger people, its simply not worth there time because we dont vote. Much better to spend the money on giving free money to pensioners.

Dunno if any of you noticed the perverse amount of time dedicated to trying to get pensioners to vote for various party, we are seeing the start of 'ageism'. Scrap council tax, tax cuts, free money and a host of other goodies for pensioners because they represent like 80% of the voting population. Nothing for people under 30.
