Really.

I see. well it's your time so take all you need, to do the stuff you want :)

Kudos to the programmers for putting their spare time in DB!

Suggestions / Snapshot 'extractor'
« on: March 30, 2006, 07:28:02 AM »
Hi,

Currently snapshots are a great way to get a ... snapshot of the whole simulation.  ;) But the files they are exported to are rather large chunks of data and getting (all) the DNA files out as .txt's is difficult, even with the Excel utility (which I find difficult to handle).

Would it be possible to create a small utility to export all dna's conceiled in a snapshot to seperate .txt files?

I imagine a small program-window in which I'd
  • 1)be able to select my snapshot file, after which I'd click "Export" (or 'Bunnies' , but export seems more appropriate).
  • 2)get a popup screen in which I'd be able to select my output directory.
  • 3)Then all DNA in the snapshot would be converted into .txt files (one txt file for one bot)
IMHO This's be great and would greatly simplify evolutionary analysis in DB.

What do you guys think?

Bot Tavern / trying to make a bot

At the moment it is, unfortunately...

However with the advent of the enzym/specialication system the line between autotrophs and heterotrophs ought to blur.

But, this is still far away, I think...

Uncheck 'Vegetable, autotroph' in the species tab. ;)

I voted 'Other biology'

I am going to study either 'Clinical technology' or 'biomedical technology' at the university of Twente next year.

A bot can write new DNA to cope with his surroundings in two different ways:

It should:
  • 1. Have a huge library. (not practical, gets to big)
  • 2. Have intelligence capable of assesing a situation and act accordingly (this'd be true Alife. but is it possible?)
What exactly would be the point of this DIY-DB'ing I wonder?

just my two euro-cents (which are worth more than $0.02 ;) )

The league option could use some serious streamlining (I daresay rework), in my opinion.

I'm for it, as long as it's properly done (of which I think you are capable).

Suggestions / Metabolism and Metabolic DNA

MY vote's to let DNA control metabolism, as it reflects real life.

IMO It should have different layers of complexity. What I really don't want is a system in which even the simplest of bots need dozens of genes to even be able to digest their food.

The script system is actually still in very basic and early in it's development. The scripts that are now possible are quite limited in their ability. PY is planning on expanding this system, I believe.

A while ago I suggested some additions to the script-system here

I read this on the WIKI, what about it? Is this 2.4 only or 2.37 also?

A catch to using racial memory is that the memloc needs to be empty prior to the information being coppied. 971 would need to be 0 for the parent to transfer it's value.
Link to WIKI article on racial memory

Thx in advance :)
