As long as you can extract the DNA of the robot and it is still usable it is fine.
Epigenetic memory is simply memory that gets preserved into a robots kid. If the DNA evolves around specific memory being a certain value it can cause problems.

And don't forget, if you have enough of those in a blade, it makes the blade considerably lighter. :P
Quick question: Do you spring load them? Reason I ask is springs are not too easy to make.

Formula 1 / Re: NEW WAY OF CALCULATING VICTORS IN F1

I still stand by calculating it off total energy within the species, as it neither favors cancerous bots, nor big bertha to an extreme like calculating off population does.

The problem is if we allow organisms in beginning of simulations and someone decides to "farm" there robots, there will be no way to filter them out if they are allowed to survive until the end of a league run against a robot that actually reproduces.

But thank you for thinking ahead for once in your life as far as I remember. I do appreciate it.

Sly, if you keep getting nonfunctional bots, you should start a topic for DB3 to load organisms at start of simulation (all epigenetic stuff preserved such as body) me and Shvarz will totally dig it and you may get robots that actually evolve using native methods.

It is based of number of chloroplasts now. Make sure you set the vegys to "repopulate"

The problem you are having is the robot adapts to its current settings not to its initial configuration. For example it will use total species sysvar expecting it not to be the initial 5. Or it is dependent on the body value not to be the initial 1000. Do not get me started on epigenetic memory.

My mode solves the problem because robots are periodically offloaded and than loaded back in using restart mode.

Btw (very unintuitive for now) You must restart the program after applying 'DNA Length *' and after that configure the robots mrates. Do not forget to click default "Default Rates" button first.

You can always try survival mode if restart mode works on your PC. It is settings independent. All you have to mess with are initial mutation rates (modify the mrate file to disable point mutations before setting a robot in global settings, figure out ideal initial mutation values in global settings 'DNA Length *')(enable all special mutation rules from global settings) You will also need to figure out "Initial reintroduction on/off length" and "Initial population oscillation reduction." Finally I strongly recommend sine wave oscillation in mutations. I almost never run without it these days. Generally if it is a suckish robot you need set the 1/20x to be longer.

Hope any of that makes sense, good luck.

Announcements / Darwinbots 2.48.32
« on: November 04, 2016, 09:04:49 AM »
Only changes to my survival fitness algorithms and few minor bug fixes. Mostly added balance functions. If you are not using my fitness algorithms then really no need to update:

Added another mutation correction algorithm to fix "robot never changed" events.

Added rule to revert one stage if robots evolve something really unstable and above rule does not help.

For DNA size correction simply based on DNA file now.

Bug fix: If a shot reaches maturity and flashes at the same time, preference flash.
Bug fix: Ignore negative energies for fittest

For zerobot algo. automatic restart after 500 stages. Findbest for zerobot ignores families with cancerous robots.

Ideal settings for evolving zerobots
Disallow fixing or unfixing
Disable chloroplats
Sine wave mutation oscillation 10 at 20x and 60 at 1/20x
333 Delta2 cycle interval for point mutations
Normalize DNA length * 100 slowest rate to * 200
I generally have P2 mutations enabled but complete zerobots usually do not have many. (Maybe in later versions it will be wise to limit P2 mutations a bit rather then getting rid of them completely)
Kill greedy robots ON, Limit body 2500.
You may not get a good result from the first try. My most recent zb took 10 "universe restarts" to evolve.
Note: Zerobot evo. is currently optimized for smaller feild areas

In general set slowest rate to * 10000 for survival evolution mode.

I have sent the binary to Shasta. Hopefully he will add it over the weekend :cross fingers:

You are further then I thought with the art Shadow. I did not realize you make proper handles too.

Once you learn your 2nd programming languages you realize most programming languages are pretty much the same, they only use a different wording to do stuff. What annoys me is some languages do not have a GUI editor so you have to program control locations manually.

Oh, I see what you are asking. Computer science is fancy word for programming.

No idea. I do know it will be something to do with AI and biology.

Yep, I actually figured out a way to solve my little problem here but it changes the way viruses work and requires a major revision. So I guess no internet mode under DB2.
