:D
*now l can put random crap in IM...*
-
Thanks!
*My viruses have been released!*
-
So how does this work now? Do I have to download some program to connect or is it enough just to click the internet button in DB?
-
Tou have to go to the thread in rant "IM horrible, not working..." ect. and go to the last post with the attachment. Unzip it to the darwinbots folder, not any of the subfolders. Also, make sure your username has no spaces!
-
Also, make sure you have "\IM\inbound" "\IM\outbound" folders or whatever folders you use for IM.
I am tightening up the 'spaces in username' problem. So far I removed spaces in the "NewbieXXXX" user name. (v2.46.06)
Now I made sure that when you change the name manually it auto removes the spaces. Expect with next version drop.

Do you have issues with spaces in the folder name? I got space and it works. Below the fix I prefer for the spacing issue.
Minor detail, can you put quotes around the name, to get 'Newbie' and '5676' in the same argument.
''-in "C:\in" -out "C:\out" -name Newbie 5676 -pid 4404
to
''-in "C:\in" -out "C:\out" -name "Newbie 5676" -pid 4404
-
Ok, then I am removing the anti-space crap and adding quotes. Brb, 5 minutes.
-
Here it is
-
Well, it doesn't work from here. I get an error message that says that the target computer denies access. What... Cough!
Edit: Ok, it looks like I'm online. No bots on server message.
-
I'm off, the IP/port that is used is in your inbox.
Curious what's causing it. Did anyone else had to do any firewall configuration?
-
Will you turn it on again tonight? I'd like to try it. I'll run a sim here through the night and see what happens.
-
I'll keep it running tonight.
-
Great!
I'm getting these error messages though:
"[Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'inbound/neworganism_3.temp'
invalid literal for int<> with base 10: ''
-
How are bots picked when there is no teleporter in the sim?

The inbound bots are inserted in random locations (by design).
"[Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'inbound/neworganism_3.temp'
Make sure your IM paths point to the directorys that exist on your hard drive (see picky)
-
Yes, the paths are correct here.
-
Once again Testlund proves his unique ability to find bugs no one else can. If I reply I figured it out, if I do not Peter should. It is been a long day.
-
OK, well I will have my sim up and running through the night and we'll see what comes through or not.
-

In case you didn't. Best to press 'toggle IM mode', then DB will start DarwinBotsIM with arguments. Server gets a lot of connections of NO_NAME(default name), I suspect you started it manually.
Don't know what caused the error. May be that the application is sandboxed and tries to rename a file that's put in a different location(because of it being sandboxed).
-
OK, so that button needs to be toggled too. I'll try again.
-
Wow! It works! I just recieved lots of Multiply4 and Alga Chloroplastus! Kewl! :)
-
I got overloaded with bots here, slowing down the sim to a crawl, so I have to use dynamic costs.
-
Alga Chloroplastus is choking my sim to death!
I think Internet Mode needs a limitation on how many bots to send at one time. I think I got as many as 1500 bots in one transfer!
-
Chloroplastus is doing the same in a sim of me.
You can set how many will maximal get into the sim in the IM teleporter. Every X cycles, max in/outbound. If it went quicker than that it's a bug in IM.
If you noticed you received more > 25 bots in the inbound folder at one time(hard to check now), that's a bug in Internet Mode.
-
Yes, you're right! I didn't think of double-clicking the teleporter. One can choose how many bots to receive and even the size of the teleporter.
-
I've been running in Internet Mode for a couple of days and it has worked well, but now I'm getting this again: "invalid literal for int<> with base 10: ''
-
Does that happen sparingly? Or does it give that back continuously?
-
No, it happened last night and there were no more bots teleported. Almost all got wiped out in the instance connected to the internet.
In the other instance I had a bot called Red that was growing into a large population.
Today it seems to be working again and my Red is being defeated by Multiply4.
-
Red has taken the lead again! :) It's a variant of my Colorbot. It began as a hunter, but now I don't know what it's doing.
I'll keep running this sim until monday.
-
Weird, I don't know what causes it. There's one issue that can cause that error. That is if you're trying to send a 10MB+ multibot, but I doubt that's the case.
In my sim multiply extincted and was replaced my martian tank 3, and hour later multiply came back and martian tank got extincted.
-
Testlund crashed my sim!
Red quickly expanded in a sim, slowing it down dramatically. And then it gave a out of memory error.
-
Anyone having connectivity issues or is noone connecting to the server? Just noticed there were 75000 bots in cache...
-
For some time, I connected a sim w/ IM, but no-one was on the other side....
-
I had 2 sims online the whole time, so that's weird. What did you get, did you get a message of 'no bots on server', a timeout or something else?
-
10054- the connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. This is the error I sometimes get if I use Task Manager to end a sim with IM running.
-

Yes, I got that "invalid literal" error again and didn't get any more bots for many hours. Then all bots died out so I quit.
-
God dam it, I can not do anything about "out of memory" RAM is RAM...
Just out of curiosity, how much bots where in the sim before it crashed?
-
I am getting both errors described above, but what is strange is it is happening both with the 32bit and the 64bit versions now.
-

Dunno, I guess 5k or anything higher. On that note I got a sim where alga chloroplastus exploded in numbers towards 8500, soo..
I restarted the server. May be something occurred that broke it, (yet it seemed to work properly for my sims :x ).
edit: what's the memory limit in db2? 2gb or less?
-
According to my research there is no memory limit in vb6, other then the system limit of your computer. If there is a serious memory leak I should have tracked it by now as my computers are not top of the line. I did a mini test of the 32bit InternetMode recently, it did not work, but maybe no one was online. I am doing another test between my tower and laptop on Tuesday of spring break. Expect results.
-
Well, it is 32 bit so you're not going to get more than ~4GB or so. That's a hard limit from the OS and, you know, numbers :). I think there's also a 2GB limit on a single allocation (specifically, arrays).
-
Yea, I tried to dimension a very big integer array for the similarity search algorithm, it was ugly. Thanks for the knowledge Numsgil, I had no idea there was such limits.
