Title: Planet Eaters
Post by: Numsgil on February 23, 2005, 01:27:54 AM
This would be very processor intensive, so it would only work for small sims.

Each bot is attracted towards other bots by inverse square law.  Basically gravitational pull, determined by each robots' mass.

Obviously this would be a just for fun mode.  It doesn't mirror anything in real life (anyway, I sure hope not!).   I think it would be fun to see bots learn to use a gravity sling effect from large groupings of vegs to accelerate to high speeds cheaply.

Also, the artificial speedlimit imposed on bots is kind of like the speed of light limit.

Maybe we can just increase a bots mass when it approaches maxvel.  Of course, that's a whole can of relativity worms I don't want to open.

Hey why not add quantum tunnelling too?

Hehe funny idea. WouldnĂ˝ mind playing around with that...  B)

Can't wait to see bots that have evolved to live in that environment :D

The only major problem I see is that it increases in complexity in O(n^2).  That is, it is the worse possible case in complexity, and would slow the program down noticably.

could be awesome, make ure own satelites ;)
"houston, we have a problem"
"what problem?"
"the satelite is eating our planet"
;) :P ;) :P

Just put this into the new version.  It's pretty cool, I started with a field of vegs and after a few thouand cycles had several distinct conglomerations orbitting around each other.

Eventually all but one veg had pooled to form a massive veg star, with the single lone veg more or less orbitting it (the field sizes you need for this to work are just huge).

Expect it in the next release. :D

So now, to the nano-bot and micro-organism views of DBs, we can add macro-organisms that live in open space.

Should be a lot of fun to play with.  :D

 I love space games...

Yea now that I though of it, why not add my booster idea to this mode as well.

The one were a robot fasing one way can exselarate in any angel bc it can fire a booster from any angel. The .setburstang .firetrust commands. The boosters power and the length of burst will depend on the ammount in .firetrust command. the angel of the burst will depend on the .setburstang command

This is an idea from a while back, I just thought I'll prepose it again since we add space mode.

This can also work with simultaniusly with cloack mode ( see updates in other post ) will be really cool.

The Big one (consept) we prepose here is to have some commands only work in some modes.

And therefor I also beleave its should be called "Space mode" instead of "Planet eaters" mode.

This should be really really cool , if you can imagine it at work.

I invented the idea, I programmed the idea, I get to name it!

And I'm sticking with Planet Eaters.  It has so much more flare to it.

More to the point.

Nobody likes the idea of a space combat game.

lol , yea. and the subject is not forever ,It kind of makes some seance now what was happening on the board.

"lol , yea" means that even if you guys still shelf my "X-wing rockets" idea , I wont be mad.

Love this idea.

Is it out yet? want to make a simulation of the solar system and this seems perfect for it.
If it is out wat version is it in and how do I use it?
If not, when will it be available

Was goin to make them all focus on the centre ( the sun ) and use formula to determine how much gravity ( .up value) the bot should use.
But planets wont atract.

Go to physics & costs => custom physics => check the " [] Planet Eaters? " box.

The integration isn't entirely stable, so you'll see it break down over the long term, but it's still fun to watch.

Extreme negatives is even more fun to watch; the bots sort of arrange themselves in a hex grid, then one bot mutates cancerously and shoves all the others into one corner until the system resets its equilibrium.

okay this might be something more advanced then pond mode, a planet eater mode.

Perhaps nice to have 2 or more gravity objects; and maybe an option to put in the sun there as well
so vegeys will go to it, and if they somehow evolve can populate other such spots

thinking of it maybe based on type
So for example, animals are get negative force from it (rejected) while algey get attracted, there
So you get space aliens eating cropses who discovered the space age

... the discusion assumes there is new version of darwinbots is that correct ?

Actually, it's been implemented at least a year ago.
