Bugs and fixes / How are teleporters working for you?
« on: January 02, 2018, 02:33:22 PM »
So I've started a couple of sims connected with teleporters and it worked will for about 24 hours but then the teleporters just stopped working. Bots are getting deleted instead when they enter the outbound teleporter. Nothing gets saved to the hard drive. Has anyone else had any problems with this in the latest version?

Oh, my goodness! That's too much for me, both price and size. 500 MB drives are enough for me and I prefer to have several drives to backup things rather than storing everything on one drive. Also as I understand it SSD drives won't last long if they get written to a lot, so for instance it's not recfommended to defrag them. Therefore I only use one as a system drive to install software on and a secondary drive for everything else.

Well, I got everything back in order a few days before Christmas and was able to restore most of the stuff I deleted. Next year I'd like to buy a real good gaming computer where I for once can run everything at highest settings. I've always had budget computers.

My broken SSD drive is a Vertex 2 and because it broke already after 4 years I will never by a hard drive of that brand again. Instead I have bought a Force SATA 3 drive, which turned out to be a lot smaller, so I could only attach it with one screw. Fortunately it's very light so I think it will be enough. It kind of hangs in there with only one screw. If this breaks too within a few years I'll be back and tell you not to buy this either. I have no idea what quality this drive is. It's the only one the retailer had left and I was desperate.

When I was to install Windows I accidently formatted my other drive where I had all my other files. So now I've had to use a program to restore those files and move them elsewhere, which is extremely time consuming, but I think I should be done with that late tonight. Then I can begin installing everything else. :-]

By the way the program I use to restore the files is Recuva, which i downloaded from Piriform.com. It seems to be working well so I can recommend that if this happens to you. There are two versions; a desktop and a portable. The portable is useless, so I had to install Windows first and then run the dektop version.

Today I discovered I can't boot up my desktop PC. It hangs for a long moment and then it displays the message "Reboot and Select proper Boot device". When I check in Bios the computer can see both my SSD system drive and my other drive, but it just can't boot. Can't remember the last time this happened but it's the first time I use an SSD drive, so maybe it's crappy quality. I will buy a new one tomorrow, but I thought I should ask if anyone can recommend a good SSD drive.

So I only have my laptop now and I'm taking this oportunity to set up a sim and test the latest version. :-]

What about Internet Mode? Is that gone and forgotten?

I have just installed Darwinbots-2-48-29 and when I checked the installation log this message was there. What does it mean? Is it important for the functionality of DB?

Darwinbots Program Source Code / Re: Butched buoyancy in DB2?
« on: July 25, 2016, 12:15:35 PM »
I guess this shows the difference between my and Numsgils approaches to Darwinbots. Numsgil wants Darwinbots to be a microbiology simulation. I want it to be a biorobotics simulation.

I've always had the impression that the consensus was to mimic microbiology as close as possible, and it looks to me like that's the direction it has been going so far. ..which is why I think DB is so friggin awesome!  :balloon:

I just wanted to look at the recording options!  :P Sigh.

This is a random bug that happens every once in awhile just by clicking on something in the menu.

I think this problem has to do with the Randomizer or possibly the teleporters, and if I understand correctly Safe Mode can't handle that. I can't attach the zip file cause it's too big. Also I doubt it would help.

I highly recommend you run my kind of set-up. That's how you catch the bugs. Just check out my folder structure in the picture, then add teleporters between them like I show in my video "A randombot simulation example" and add a bunch of randombots to each instance.

I will have to get back to this later. My computers are busy with DB instances right now. I'm running my own simulations tonight.

I just picked a plant bot when asked to choose a bot, that's all. Maybe there is something in the settings that affect it. You can check it out with the files I uploaded in my latest bug report.

So it's not working? I thought I would give it a try tonight.

This happened when I ran Survival Mode.

I don't get why reproduction is disabled by default here.

I will test it tonight. I'll start a new thread about it later.
