I get alot of runtime errors.
-
Press CTRL+C on the runtime error.
Paste it here.
Restart the program, it will prompt you to do something, either safemode or copy and attach all files it will prompt you to attach.
Read about how safemode works on the wiki, if you feel the error was caused while you where modifying the settings, please clearly describe what you where doing.
It will also help if you list your operating system.

DarwinBots
---------------------------
Run-time error '76':
Path not found
---------------------------
OK

If this happens when you try to exit darwinbots:
Please go to you DB folder and open a file called 'Maindir.gset' with notepad.
Does the path inside the file point to a folder that exists on your computer? If no, delete Maindir.gset and that should fix your problem.
What is happening is you may have changed your main directory and then deleted or renamed it.
Please let me know if it helped.
...
edit: Bug fixed (resetting this info as necessary)
There is a couple more things we can try if this did not help, but for now looks like a simple user generated error.
-
I can't find that file.
-
I do however, have the old darwinbots folder lying around from the previous update.
-
When does the error happen?
Also, can you zip and send me the content of your DB2.45.03 folder (excluding the robots)
-
If I make too many simulations at once. I do this because I like the old blue background, and am trying to get to it. And sometimes it happens after a while.
-
Also, here's a copy of the folder.
-
Oh well, that is easy to fix. I am going to make the old blue background optional.
There is a big nono in the logic of the program vs running more the one instance from a single folder:
Warning: If you are running more than one instance of the program on the same computer make sure each instance of darwinbots you run is in a different folder. You must copy Darwin2.XX.X.exe and all of its components into a new folder for each instance you run. This is done so 'safe mode' works correctly.
Just don't do that.
I'll send you a fix Saturday where you can have your old background back :)
At any rate, you helped me spot some relatively ugly bugs that I will fix as well.

Here NotLegalTender, check this out:
(note: If you find any other bugs let me know)

The first time I fired up Internet mode, a bunch of bots came in and then it said I needed to turn on pond mode. So I did.
Now no bots are coming in, and Internet Mode keeps telling me that it doesn't recognize this version of DB. That seems like it would be expected, but is that a problem?
-
Hmm maybe those bots were just in my inbound folder from the last time I experimented with it?
Is there a network share or URL I can direct IM to?
-
Internet Mode keeps telling me that it doesn't recognize this version of DB.
Yea, that is the old version. It is trying to read raw data from DB2. We a are in the process of replacing it with a version that uses pipes (I think) I have not seen Ammeh in a while, she is the one working on it.
Currently the server side for IM is down to the best of my knowledge.
-
In 2.45.03: I have found that bots are able to feed off zero body. While in safe mode this does not happen, but it only gave me the option of safe mode once.
So 100 .fdbody store
grants eternal life.
I have attached my test bot and sim.
-
It should go into safemode only if you end task the exe. Looking at your problem now.
-
Found it, has to do with the way the new corpses work.
-
Found a couple more minor bugs in the process:
* If you load a simulation and the saves directory does not exist, it crashes the program.
Problems with restart sim when all robots are dead:
* Restart sim does not randomize the seed
* The sim does not restart when loaded
I'll have something by Tuesday, I gtg.
-
Done.
Tilthanseco, here you go:
-
Thanks a lot.
My sim went from 150 bots to 7. I need to feed them more...
