Bugs and fixes / Found pretty serious Integer stack bug

I'd recommend re-rerunning all of leagues under it without the spiffy speed features and see if any of the bots aren't able to operate.
I've tried that, causes problems.

I now stick by the tried and tested 'It can cheat to get a place in the league and if that cheat is fixed the bot keeps its place!'

As far as leagues go, I'm very happy to disable this or anything else people want in league mode.
So long as leagues are fixed, I.e. always the same, I'm happy.

That's a very neat way of allowing predators in the evosims, I like it!

Bot Tavern / Some fancy aiming:

I find this interesting w.r.t your post on 'should shots have mass' Eric, IIRC, which I doubt I do, isn't mass weight X speed or something? Somewhere along the lines of a small object travelling at a high velocity can cause the same damage as a large object traveling at a slow speed...

I'm not sure how you could calculate costs for such but should shot speed be adjustable as well as shot weigh/nrg?

Suggestions / Give Shots Mass

I like the idea of recoil and shot impact velocity having a effect on bots movement. Particuarly with respect to size of shot.

If .shotshell (if I can call it that) didn't return energy to the aggressor then I think I would be interested in that as well.
A form of attack with no reward beyong the possibility of killing/damaging its foe would be an interesting new angle to explore.

Off Topic / An idea?

Love those pictures! 8)

I don't know much about sea level/climate but let's see what I can remember;

Sea level used to be much higher than it is now, once upon a time there used to be a lot of shallow seas with the occasional islands, much as you have drawn. The UK (where I am basing this idea) used to be one of those shallow island/sea places.

(/sigh, those were the days, when the UK floated down at the equator.)

Then again you get ice ages, the UK used to be joined to France for instance, look at the continental shelves if you want a better idea of how America and Africa used to be joined.

Ice sheets also had a big impact on the land above sea, Scotland is rising atm while the south of England is sinking due to the last ice age and the removal of the Scottish ice cap.

I'm not sure of the relation between ice (reflects sunlight) and water (absorbs heat) though, guess other factors must play a part.

Your seymouria looks like it is turning into a giant newt! Love to see where it gets to next and know more about the evolutionary pressures that sent it in that direction.

There was a cool program on the BBC about dinosaur evolution, sorry I can't remember the name, I'll see if I can find it for you.

For someone who wasn't going to start on bug fixing for a few weeks; you do truly exceed expectations Eric!

I liked that Eric, thanks for posting it for us to read!

Eric! Nice to see you drop by again; I look forward to an update on your book's progress or the chance to read some of what you have written.

I think the C++ port has been dropped in favour of a C# port as re. the quote of Num's here; http://www.darwinbots.com/Forum/index.php?showtopic=2109

Would be lovely if you could fix a couple of the problems that have been identified in the meantime, tie feeding not working properly in particular.

Very pleased to see you back...

Ok, thanks, but when I edit something on the wiki do I need to post this on the forum ???

All your changes to the wiki, if you make any, will be recorded so no, plus all the old versions of a page can be found so it's easy enough to rectify mistakes!

Can't see a direct link for it anywhere, I suggest you call the page up and add it to your 'favourites' tab in whichever browser you are using. You can always delete the link when you have finished with the page.

Actually, I think the F1 (and other competitions) ruleset should be changed to have (small) costs for math operators. The cost amount could be balanced to remove the energy advantage that SG bots have over bots which actually use conventional conditions, without making the cost so high as to make SG bots unfeasible.
That's a good idea, if SG bots still have an advantage when the next update is released I'll look into adding those costs.

I've never figured out how to use ties properly myself so good luck!

I'd rather not have aiming (at where the target will theoretically be in the future) be even more difficult than it is now.
Do you think the ability to do that should be cost free?

[!--quoteo(post=0:date=' post=:name=)--][div class=\'quotetop\']QUOTE ( @ ' post=)[div class=\'quotemain\'][!--quotec--]it will be possible to at least guess at reality based on that information[/quote]
I would much rather that bots guessed at things for the main unless they spent a fair bit of energy working stuff out, it should all come down to a 'paper scissors stone' balance. This is an evolution game, even in the leagues, there shouldn't be one way to be the best...
