Title: Interesting Evolution
Post by: hawk_strike on November 16, 2005, 03:14:05 AM
Well, I thought to be interest id have two types of Algae and two types of bot, I chose Alga Hairy and Alga Minimalis - The alga Minimalis was to be stationary, the Alga Hairy moving(it looks cool, clumps together in almost colony like swathes when its moving).

For my Animals I chose Black ant and C_Filans.

The C_Filans where promptly wiped out, but I left the simulation running overnight on my laptop, this morning when I checked, there was two CLEARLY distinct new species(which have both been saved as neither are like the black ant really anymore).

One species, seems to have forgone moving atall except spinning at one point into its evolution, instead it gets caught up in the somewhat sticky moving colonies of Alga Hairy and lives off them

The other species moves about rather speedily eating pretty much anything...the population seems to boom right after theres been some big birth event in the other species, but it tends to be protected from being completed wiped out by the alga tangled around it sometimes.

The fact the Alga hairy gets stuck around everything stationary (like the Alga Minimalis, which one would expect to have been eaten out of existance) seems to have led to interesting protection and feeding methods...

if anyone wants me to I can probably upload the species once I get a copyable disk?

Hi Hawk Strike. Welcome to the DB forum. Although it sounds as if you are very familiar with our program.

One question.

Which version are you running? If you downloaded and ran on V2.37.6 yesterday then I can explain why Alga Minimalist is still around. If at some point your alga were mostly destroyed then both species of alga will be respawned in the new system.

If you can, include a save of the simulation and post it in the "Simulation Emporium".

Sounds really neat :D

PurpleYouko: Ah yes, that would explain it - the re-population thing that is, id forgot I left it on. See...I went to sleep and left the thing running, so I dont know if at one point the food supply was exhausted (I suppose it wouldve had to have been for natural selection to take place)... But ive been checking on the thing all day and the Minimalist just gets wrapped in the hairy which gets consumed first but reproduces faster.

Numsgil: Ill Upload it as soon as I get new copyable disks....im abit copy happy and use them all up on albums

:tantrum:

Disks?

We don't need no stinking disks!!!

Just upload the file to the bottom of your post using the "browse" button under the box where you write your post.

no...I need disks to move it from my laptop to this PC. This is the family internet PC, my laptop isnt connected to the internet yet, and I didnt trust leaving anything long term running where my siblings could get at it  :banghead:

I really gotta get a cable and put the internet on that thing.

Linksys routers rock dude.  :D

I have 2 (shortly to be 3) comps networked at home from a single cable modem. Really easy to set up.
