Title: Run-time error 75 on Win XP
Post by: Testlund on July 12, 2014, 11:21:14 AM
This is not specific to any user settings.

If I clear out all files that DB creates and start DB so it behaves like a new install, and then just go to "Global Settings" --> "Evolution" and select "Zerobot Mode" and "OK" I will get "Run-Time- error 75".

Then DB will close and no files are created.

Edit: It only happens on Win XP. Now I got "Run-time error 76" in Win 7. This seems to be completely random.

hmmm... may be a hanging file that has no io rights some where. The best way to solve this one is:

Testlund whenever this happens end task db immediately and can you please zip me the content of your db2 folder and send it here??

It is going to be a lot of fun if I get your package and still can not recreate it.

I finally managed to get this bug report dialog to appear that mensions the files I need to send you.

So I was trying to run "Simple Survival Mode" that keeps crashing every time on Win 7 too.

Here are the files:

Wait a minute, I thought you where talking about error 75 with a somewhat clean db folder and it crashed when you clicked the ok button?

I'll take a look at this one as well, what does it crash with? Also 75?

Testlund, this is not a crash that is generated from within the simulation. Safemode only apply when the crash is not a user generated event. In this case it is better that you simply erase the files to make it look like a clean install, have the thing crash, and then give me all the content of the folder.

Sorry for the confusion.

Also, how did you manage to insert your test robots into a survival evo? That should be disabled.

You also managed to get Darwinbots to crash with safemode? How the hell did you manage that? There are still errors that cause the damn thing to crash?

edit: Dude, it is like 1am where you are posting from. I need the debug but I value sleep over it. Get some sleep. I'll get to it eventually.

I will have to upload it in two parts because it's too big. First my almost complete DB folder as a new install plus my bots and a sim file:

And here are some more "Internet Mode" files that belongs in the main DB folder:

Just go right in and click on "Simple Survival Mode" and it should give you a "Run-time error 75" every time.

If you load my sim file and then quit so DB creates it's files, and then start again and select to run "Simple Survival Mode" you may start to get more run-time errors, for instance "Run-time error 380, file not found". This is more random though.

Also when it crashes; you might want to check the Task Manager that DB isn't still running before you start it again, or you may get conflicts with multiple instances. This is easy to forget.

You did everything correct, except you chosed "Zerobot" mode. It's "Simple Survival Mode" that always crash for me under Win 7 (looks like that is what you're running in the video. Nice desktop! :-)). Under Win XP BOTH modes always crash.

I just have tried windowsXP as well. I am really stumpt here. The only thing I can suggest is for new users not mess with the DB2 files or otherwise do a fresh install. Here is another vid for you (http://youtu.be/xnZh6aWyeY8)

Lolz! You just showed me the problem!  :D It doesn't say anywhere that I HAVE to have a veggie bot and a source bot! So now it works. Haven't checked in Win XP yet. Knocks on wood.

It still doesn't work on Win XP for me. Here is my complete DB folder in Win XP. If you just start it and go to run "Simple Survival Mode" you should get "Run-time error 53".  There is still some problem with file access it seems.

As instructed, you must have a copy of restarter.exe in your DB2 folder. Here is a fresh one for you (attached)

Weird! This file was missing in Win XP but not in Win 7. I have no memory of having downloaded this separately. OK, problem solved! Thanks!  :)
