Title: Bestiary
Post by: Numsgil on February 21, 2005, 07:48:58 AM
(There really isn't a place for this.  PY, if you could make an actual 'bot forum' where people can post new bots, this could go there.)

Yes, an ambitious project.  I'd like to catalogue every bot known to exist, and in alphabetical order, listing relative strength, reproduction speed, etc.  I'm not sure of the form it would take, whether in a side document, html cross referenced set, or in this post.

This bestiary could be included in a zip file of all the bots, a more organized version of the bot archives available to download.

Why not set up a depository of League files that can be directly downloaded to your DarwinBots V3.0 to run in your new league system.

I will create a seperate board for this if you like.

That's odd, I appear to have acquired a new signature.

Funny that it only appears in the forums MightyPenguin Moderates.

A forum for actual bot postings would be nice.  The database works too, but I think having the bots in several places at once is a good thing :D

As for downloading league files...  that would rock!

Y'know something really strange Num?

Your new siggy!

Just the other day I was contemplating the exact same rhyme for use as a siggy

I think I feel an "outer limits" moment coming on

here's one I memorized (Oh God I wish I could forget it some times)

Oh freddled gruntbuggly,
Thy micturations are to me,
as plurdled gabbleblotchits,
on a lurgid bee.
Groop, I implore thee,
my foonting turlingdromes,
And hooptiously drangle me,
with crinkly bindlewerdles,
or I will rend thee in the gobberwarts
with my blurglecruncheon.
See if I don't!

I hate f$%#@* Vogons

I'm... not gonna ask.

But anyhoo... You're gonna have quite an undertaking to do here, Nums.  I alone have 8 bots, with at least 3 variations of each bot (my best being the non-working Motoris Morphus Growthi, but you've seen him already (plus he only has one subspecies)).  The database doesn't have many bots, but there's still the ones you can download off of the DarwinBots homepage, and the ones strewn about the old forums and... alot more where that came from.

Aye, not an easy task at all.

A standard nomenclanture will be needed.  Subspecies will need a way to be identified as such.  I'll see if I can't work it all out.

I read up to halfway through "So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish.", but then I lost The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide.  :/

I love DNA. (Douglas N. Adams) I have read all of his books (Hitchiker 4x). I can't get sick of it. I think the best caracter in his books is Marvin. The HitchHiker's Guide Movie is coming soon.

I saw a trailer for the movie.

It'll either suck or be really cool.  Most sci-fi movies tend to be that way.
