Title: A funny story that happend to me
Post by: Botsareus on September 21, 2005, 07:16:49 PM
Resently at school I went to a meating were I thought I seen a host of a show that is looking to brodcast all this kinds of things like robotics , etc.

So I thought I'll ask him to check out darwin bots, see If we can make it on tv.

I thought that this new guy jetto was him. (Maybe he was, but he might not be the host of that tv show.)

Anyway, I just thought I put it up:
http://www.pbs.org/saf/contact.htm (http://www.pbs.org/saf/contact.htm)

Incase it was not him, I just want you guys to keep in mind that when we do get everything together we can contact this guys veia there web site and they can do a show for us (that is if they find anything worth showing, I know they did a show on other AL guys, but non of them were experimenting with actual code as the dna, they were doing changes in values or shape, stuff like that).

Thats incase we need to get the real scientific community envolved or if you are looking for enough members that some of them might actualy be girls for once. all that kind of stuff.

Actually I gave you the award, for a post somewhere that sounded remarkably coherent coming from you.  PY and I were pleasently surprised.

That PBS thing would be pretty cool, but I don't know that we have anything we can really show off yet.  Unless someone can think of something specifically.  The problem with ALife stuff is that they really don't make good visual aides because it takes hours for interesting things to happen.

You realize that now that we know you can post in coherent full sentences, we'll be on you even more than usual about it :D

True, but I beleave the whole consept of "mutating code" instead of "mutating values" was not toched yet by thouse pbs guys. (They talked about a hell of a lot of things already but I am pritty sure they leaved this one out)

We need to simulations , one with a bot predesigned to evolve somthing interesting quick ( somewere along the lines of PY's tutorial)

and the other one just show off evolutionary steps of  a longer project (witch makes me think: maybe I get my first bot done first?)

and there is always room to talk about  the whole consept of having compatitions between programmers of who ever builds a better bot.

Num I hate languge, o well I'll try... (nooo the pain)

In a nutshell:

It'd be really cool, but I'm not holding my breath.

What school are you going to (It wasn't Alan Alda that you thought you saw was it?  Because I'd be seriously impressed if you met Alan Alda (and also highly skeptical)).

It was a waird Alan in a haviean t-shirt and big glasses. Otherwise he talked and looked like the guy more or less. In my mind I was thinking he was pretending to be a collage professor.

It was a CIS sosiaty brooklyn collage opening meating.

I love they guys reply when I asked him: "If I was this guy, would I even tell you?"

I seriously doubt you saw Alan Alda.  I mean, Alda's:

1.  Old.  Old enough anyway

2.  Rich.  I mean, I think he is.  Becasuse he's also...

3.  a MASH castmember.  And MASH is the coolest show ever (or was until I sasw every episode a billion and a half times).

FYI

Jetto is a guy that came here at my invitation. I am currently working with him to set up a MMORPG resource forum.

Once it is up and running I will add links in here.
