Darwinbots Program Source Code / Eyes in DB!?

Just out of interest what value is returned the first time it reads an .eye address? 0?

Darwinbots Program Source Code / Eyes in DB!?

So does that mean that the first time an eye location is read it won't get a value? Or is it read, the flag set the routine called and then the value passed back?

Darwinbots Program Source Code / Eyes in DB!?
« on: June 22, 2005, 07:46:48 AM »
Just wondering if this idea would be messed up by a virus inserting a gene which uses another .eye location? Like a bot using only .eye5 gets an insertion with a reference to .eye8 but this wouldn't work because the program only calculates .eye5.
Unless every cycle the program checks how many eye references there are, and calculates the appropriate values, but wouldn't that take a lot of time?

What do you make of this? I think I can guess lol.

I have read that viruses can still use dead cells to replicate but I don't know if that is the same as the cell being brought back to life.

I don't get why they actually need to change colour, the effect could just be in respect to other bots. Maybe a bot camouflaging itself could fade slightly just so you could see what it was doing but a complete colour change is going to look a bit weird...
And yeah it would be a very potent weapon for DB but it would also be an expensive one to use or would have drawbacks, such as the inability to shoot when camouflaged.

Suggestions / Fatigue
« on: June 11, 2005, 03:31:27 PM »
OK Darwin Bots are Darwin Bots but that doesn't answer whether they should get tired or not. If they are modelled primarily after nanobots then wouldn't there be some form of overheating involved in applying a force for long amounts of time?

I was thinking about bacteria not experiencing fatigue but wasnt sure if DB was specifically modelled after bacteria...
I am looking at some stuff about fatigue to see if I can find any decent answers.

Maybe it could be linked to the waste already existing in DB?

Just had another thought which could be interesting, maybe some sort of camouflage ability?

It would maybe take a certain amount of energy per cycle to sustain depending on the degree of camouflage you would want.

The full effect I suppose would be to render you invisible to other bots but this would be at a high price. Maybe you are unable to shoot while camouflaged?  Lesser degrees would maybe mess with other bot's vision, maybe make them think you are closer/further than you are, maybe a little further left or right. Or maybe you would have to be within more than one of their eye's fields of vision before they could see you.

Could make for interesting strategies with DNA I guess.
