Anyone with a lower case name, that wouldn't mind, I will change to an upper case name.

It doesn't effect your ability to login.  You can type lower case for your ID and still get it to work right.

It's just sort of bugging me.  I know it's silly.

Anyway, post if you'd be fine with me editing your Capitalization to your user name and I'll see what I can do.

some childhood trauma?
how you were/were not toilet trained no doubt. ;) lol

do whatever increases your comfort level my man ...
but don't expect me to change my writing style.  :P

I'm new here ...
still working on getting DarwinBots to actually work
without giving me a runtime error anytime I attempt
to

looks like a great program ...
have been reading the forum and downloading a few bots ...
and the tutorials ...
so I do hope to get these errors sorted out.

we will see.

Yes, I am a Capitalist (I don't think they invented that word for this purpose heh heh).  Consider yourself capitalized.

I posted a "Troubleshooting" section on the wiki for your problem, in addition to the email I sent you...

It's about the most common reason we even get people to visit the forums :P  I ahve mixed feelings about making it easier to fix.

added a note to the wiki Troubleshooting file:
if one downloads default.set from the link you provided ...
the path is: "Z:\DB Backup\DarwinBotsII\Robots"
and as I found ... that will indeed result in an error.
so one needs to alter that path to the folder where
they have installed DB.
you may want to change that in the file offered for download.

this is of course basic/simple for all you programmer geeks ...
but for those of us less schooled/skilled/pedantic ...
we don't need to be led farther astray.  ;)

actually ...
wouldn't line 8 in "default.set" work if instead of "Z:\DB Backup\DarwinBotsII\Robots"
or "C:\Program Files\DarwinBotsII\Robots" ...
it was simply: "&#\Robots" ???
and would then work regardless of where someone installed the program?

I'll let you change that if so ...
as I'm just guessing.

Exactly.  I'll get to it later today (I'm going to be late for class in 4 minutes).

The easiest way is to download it from here (http://s9.invisionfree.com/DarwinBots_Forum/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=404809), but some of you have weird internet and can't download. Shame, shame. So the below is an exact transcription (yep, it's just a text file). Save it as default.set in you settings directory. If you're in post 2.4, you'll probably need to load this into your sim using the "load settings" button.

NOTE: If you download the file from the link above ...
the path in line 8 will be: "Z:\DB Backup\DarwinBotsII\Robots".
You need to alter that path to point to the folder where you have installed DarwinBotsII.
If you have installed DarwinBotsII to a location other than "C:\Program Files\DarwinBotsII\" ...
change that path in the default.set file (line 8 in the following) to ensure the program will be able to locate your robots.
(I believe if you make it "&#\Robots" it will work regardless of where you installed DBII as long as your Settings folder
is located in the same directory as the Robots folder.
Play with it and see ... why not?)

Well, I think the program prompts you in the beggining to locate your robots, in order to auto fix the problem. We don't need to be shown how uncompateble the program is on the wiki. It is actualy quite compateble, it assumes that your robots are all over the hard drive. I say someone delete that correction before darwinbots dies in the same nature cosmic rift died.

No, griz is quite correct.  The settings file included will have a hard time trying to find your robots folder in the Z directory :P

Did you ever get a sim running griz?  A hint: Veggies are not supposed to swell up like pregnant beached whales in the first 4 seconds of the sim.  They're supoosed to be relatively the same size as the rest of the bots.

had to uninstall to get my computer back to working as it should ...
even rebooting left it barely limping along.
haven't reinstalled yet.
am wondering if it isn't a good idea to go ahead and let in do so
in the C:ProgramFiles ...
I usually try to minimize installing to the C: drive and use other partitions.
any thoughts on this?
any problems you know of?

as for the settings:
no clue as to how the veggies did that ...
I have not been able to edit at all without a runtime error ...
so I did no changes.
how-some-ever ...
I see now that I can do the intitial setup in default.set ...
and edit/alter that with notepad to adjust the settings outside
of the program if that's what it takes to get it to run initially.
whatever works.

are the graphs and robot info dropdowns functioning in 2.4?
I get no graphics for the graphs or the robot activations, etc.

ok ...
will get back to you if I still have problems.

an aside:

I know this 'small case' no caps thing bugs you ...
sorry ... (not really)  ;) ...
but about two years ago I started to lose feeling and control
of two fingers on my left hand ...
first noticing it because of missed capitals ...
and having trouble playing guitar, etc.
neuropathy ... it comes and goes ...
so I just got in the habit of not worrying about it as it really
slows down my typing/writing/train of thought ...
and I just adapted it into' my 'style' of writing ...
which you may have noted is not very conventional.
goes with the territory of being  a rebel and nonconformist
this isn't tech report writing or programming ...
this is just fun and more of an art thing ...
this is how I play and jam ...
for fun.

AND ...
imo ... if someone doesn't understand what I mean ...
or misinterprets the content/essence of what I say ...
just because  don't use capatals ...
or they don't 'appove' of my puncuation or lack of ...
they are indeed pedantic and that is their problem.  :P

after all ...
one should beware of confusing the menu for the meal ...
or the map for the territory. ;)
as long as one 'gets' the gist of what I am communicating ...
(and I don't have much of a problem communicating as I
am in fact a technical report/procedure writer by profession ...
where I do have to conform to certain standards) ...
the rest is of no consequence.
at least not to me.

of course ...
your mileage may vary. ;)

'nuff said.

(my english is pritty bad so...)

You can be a rebel to anything you want btw. I actualy like some rebels, but don't do anything to potantialy destroy this fourm , or put me in crappy mood for that matter.
