what are Leagues?

incredible noob question, havent bothered to ask earlier since.. well, idk why.. but..

exactly what are "Leagues"
so far.. im guessing its specific world setting used in.. contest i guess?

am i correct or completly off, or somewhere between?

i checked the wiki but it didnt give anything and the forum search function wasnt to much use (database error), neither did the League sub-section in the forum have an explaining topic about it

yes it's a contest where each bot of a specific type (milti bot, formula 1(f1), ect.) is pitted against another of the same type until one species is wiped out. the winner can go onto the next round and try all over again in a tournament.
