Why no reproduction in Survival Mode?
« on: March 31, 2016, 09:59:13 PM »
I don't get why reproduction is disabled by default here.
The internet is corrupt and controlled by criminally minded people.

Not sure what you mean. Reproduction should be enabled in survival mode. Are you sure you did not disable it in "evolution restrictions" ?

The only thing that should be disabled is mutations for blue robots.

Wait a minute, I think I know by looking on your screen shot.

Did you add any plants for your robots to feed on before starting survival mode?

I just picked a plant bot when asked to choose a bot, that's all. Maybe there is something in the settings that affect it. You can check it out with the files I uploaded in my latest bug report.

Oh ok. Some pointers:

Plant evolution as is does not work in survival mode. I think I may have a fix, but it is a pretty big fix so I am holding it of for now.

The only way survival mode really works is if your robots are allowed to reproduce. Point mutations may work (although honestly never tried it) but I give it about a 5% of working because the population will be too small for survival mode to figure out anything useful from it. Usually survival mode works best with at least 25 robots successfully reproducing within 8K cycles.

Yea, so go into evolution restrictions and uncheck (picy)  I feel like Virgin Galactic now when they screwed up the 'feathering' system. Having that check box there is kinda pointless.

Also, if it is a reasonably strong robot already, your 8K on/off length and 32 are way too high. I seriously recommend the default  1.5K by 10.
If anything the 10 will go up to about 50 by itself over time. I also never really seen the on/off clime anywhere above 2K really but I did cap it at 15K.

I will have to get back to this later. My computers are busy with DB instances right now. I'm running my own simulations tonight.
