So I thought I'd try running a King of the Hill sim...
« on: October 25, 2014, 03:19:51 PM »
So I thought I'd try run some rounds of first species to die gets eliminated, with 10 species plus algae, 30 bots per species, 30000 starting energy each and... F1 settings.

I made a huge mistake.

The first entrants are:

Fruit Flies v0.21
Etch Mk II
EyeOfTheBeholder
Detonator v1.2
Callidus
Locust
Martian Tank 3
Catapiller
Multiply4
Blue on blue

Plus Alga_Minimalis_Chloroplastus as veggie.

First one out is Blue on blue on cycle 65. Fruit Flies and Etch are way ahead with more than a thousand each, then there's a pack with EyeOfTheBeholder, Detonator, Callidus, Locust and Martian Tank 3. Catapiller and Multiply4 are below 10 units already.

Multiply4 is out on cycle 91, and all bots except Fruit Flies, Etch and EyeOfTheBeholder are now under threat.

See Maca, it is not too bad. Maybe you will actually start taking me seriously.  :)

I had to restart the round, I forgot to set algae to repopulate. :P

New round, 5 bots each, 5K energy. F1 settings.

Fruit Flies remained comfortably in the +1000. Etch Mk II and EyeOfTheBeholder held for more than a hundred cycles, but not much longer.

Score Rounds Bot
01Fruit_Fliesv0.21
11Etch Mk II
21EyeOfTheBeholder
31Callidus
41Locust
51Detonator v1.2
61Catapiller
71Blue on blue
81Martian Tank 3
91Multiply4

I'm going to add up the positions, pick the 8 lowest scores and add two new bots each round. (x) is the number of rounds played by that bot.

Round 3:

The new bots this round didn't get far. Fruit Flies vs Quick Draw ratio dropped from 20:1 to 6:1. EOTB barely outlasted Callidus.

New bots from the F1 bestiary next.

Apparently Maca has a monster CPU. Maca I would love to see the source code for your little experiment, as I highly doubt you are doing this manually.

Doing it manually, but I stop as soon as Fruit Flies and Quickdraw finish killing everything else and stabilize, which is very quickly. All other bots are dead by cycle 200.

It helps that the Populations graph shows the bots in the order of extinction.

Round 4:

Multiply4 had it rough on its comeback, Callidus struggled and goes to the freezer. Occura started strong and managed to steal fourth from Etch. Same top 3 with Eye barely sneaking past 200 cycles.

In case it wasn't clear, I'm entering 10 species plus algae in a single sim each round, it's not a 1 vs 1 league.

I know Maca, you are doing it the old school way.  :) I was just wondering if you where able to hook up an algorithm. I personally get annoyed with doing things manually reasonably quickly.

Sweet results though. Keep up the good work.  :)

I do a lot of coding against API services for a living, so I'd love a lot to hook the DB core to an external script -- but I've never looked into it.

Round 5:

New bots died quickly. Eye had a terrible start and will have to rest. Etch did well, but couldn't avoid the freezer. Republican Wasp is holding ground.

Round 6:

Aggressive Dwarfs started really strong, almost matching Fruit Flies in numbers, but they burnt all their energy away. Carnivore Ivy did ok for a plant. Locust had a good comeback. Reaper was a notable third this time, although none of 'the rest of the bots' made it to 200 cycles.

Sorry Maca, under new chloroplast setting Ivy sucked. It behaves more like the trolls but the webs it forms are still sweet. Oh wait, you are running 2.48.23  nm.

I note the same for trolls.
