Waste Conversion

<< < (2/2)

PurpleYouko:
Bit oversimplified that.

It is more like

Sunlight + CO2 --> photosynthesis --> O2 + energy.
Nitrates (NO3) + Energy --> cellulose(plant body)

But that is just splitting hairs.

k0zm0:
cellulose =  repeating units of D-glucose...
What has got NO3 to do with it? Really,I don't know...

PurpleYouko:
OK so I am oversimplifying it too.
The point is not to leave out body from the product of the equation.

Highly simplified, plants use sunlight, CO2 and nutrients to build their own body which is primarily cellulose or lignin.

The full chemical discription of the entire process would take a bit more space than a one or two liner. (BioChemistry is not my favorite field anyway.)

Numsgil:
I was thinking waste represents Phosphates, which are the byproduct when ATP breaks into ADP.

BTW: Chemistry is my least favorite field.   <_<

PurpleYouko:
Pretty much all waste in the marine environment ends up as Ammonia. As for what gets left behind in the robot, I haven't got as clue.

Biology is my worst and least favorite area whereas environmental chemical filtration systems and the nitrogen cycle are probably my most favourite.

I was the study of aquatic ecosystems that got me into taking a Chemistry degree in the first place.
