Overflow error
« on: March 15, 2013, 10:24:39 AM »
Hi,
I've recently evolved a few bots able to reproduce sustainably, so I extracted their DNA and started a new sim with just those.  After about 10-20 mins the simulation crashes, giving and overflow error.  When I re-open the error.sim file however, I can carry on running the sim for another 10-20 mins before it gives the same error again.  Does anyone know what might be causing this?

This is run using 2.45.01.  When I tried with 2.45.02 the overflow error happens immediately on reloading error.sim.

The file is attached.

Thanks!

Try this version (This is my secret work in progress version  8) don't tell others yet)

The error was caused by the fact that you set point mutations to '500000' apparently the program was unable to handle that kind of setting.

Ah cool- thanks very much! I'll keep it secret  ;)
I feel like I should get involved with the coding- I've got experience with quite a few languages, including VB. is there any call for more coders?

It will help if you can figure out how to implement this:

http://forum.darwinbots.com/index.php/topic,3671.0.html

Don't bother with the EricL I like Numsgils idea better because it will also solve the genetic distance problem.

Just send me the code when you done, so I can look it over before submission.

A warning: Most problems left to solve for DBII are very logically intensive, I hope you can handle it.

Here is another post where I describe a fix I had in mind to make your life easier if you consider it:
