My thought as well.  I think that's what made internet mode so interesting in its heyday.
For group selection (or altruism) to occur in DB there has to be a benefit in cooperation. Tieing and sharenrg avoids movement cost and is about as exciting as it gets.
Farming veggies could be an option if you can get rid of R selection. Maybe reversing the nrg ratio of -1 and -6 shots, in combination with per body squared energy for veggies.
