I still think JP2 was one of the best popes.  he was the only one to apoligise for all the people who the church murdered :shoot:  in the crusades(I really hope he really was sorry). But I would have to agree with you about the new pope, his face is scary. Did you know he was one of the hitler youth(that may even be scarier than his face).  Thats scary one of our national leaders(and one in the church at that) thought what hitler was doing was right!

To be fair everyone and their dog in Germany during world war 2 were involved with the Nazis.  Not much you can do about that.

Has anyone ever read The Tin Drum?

Not that he really had any choice in the matter.
It was kind of compulsory around that time  <_<

Well, as a kid I was a part of "Pioneers" organisation in Soviet Union, which is kind of like boy scouts only with communist ideals and such.  Would you say that I was part of all the atrocities of communist regime?  I certainly don't think so.  The membership was pretty much obligatory for kids.  All we did was pariticipate in recycling programs (paper, metal), subscribe to a magazine (which was actually quite fun, with adveture stories, comics and puzzles), go to meetings where adults talked about peace and freedom for all.  That was pretty much it.  I did not kill anyone and at the time had no idea that any killing was done at all.  It was pretty much the same with "Hitler youth"
