Venom <-> Poison
« on: January 16, 2007, 07:41:44 AM »
Hi,
maybe it's just a problem with the language, cause both are translated with "Gift", but I looked them up without finding a real difference in the meaning, but differences in the usage of the words. So what are the effects making them different?

In DB; venom can be fired at another bot using a -3 shot. vloc is the memory location in the other bot it will affect and venval is the value that you set this location to.

Poison is automatically fired if your bot is hit by a -1 shot, ploc is the memory location in the other bot it will affect and it will set the value of that location to 0

It's a bit like a venomous snake biting you or a poisonous toad that makes you sick if you bite it!

In the real world venom is a particular type of poison so I'm not suprised it didn't translate very well.
If you try and take a cat apart to see how it works, the first thing you have in your hands is a non-working cat.

So it's 'gift' in German too, like in Swedish?   I've been wondering about that too.

By the way, gift in Swedish both means poison and married. Hehe

Well, I had big problems in school when I started to learn english with the words: "gift" (english) and "Gift" (german).
I wasn't able to see the link between poison and a present...
