Windows boots very slow!
Testlund:
I'm sure it's not Norton which causing it because I've tried to boot with everything disabled with only the most necessary stuff and it still hangs for 2 min on desktop. I've posted about my problem on the Oblivion forum along with a DXDiag file to see if somebody there knows what to do. Otherwise I could try what you suggest to remove the graphic card and see what happens. The game crashing and desktop freeze might be related to either a driver or a faulty card.
Numsgil:
What windows version are you using? In my experience, Win 2000 takes the longest to load, followed by win 98 and finally XP. XP is really quite fast (or should be anyway).
If windows is booting to your desktop (so you can see your background picture and icons) and then takes a few minutes, it means you have too many start up programs, which msconfig should help you eleminate (you should really only be booting with maybe 7 things checked)
If it takes minutes to even boot to the desktop, your registry and/or drivers may be to blame.
Either way I find it a good practice to create a new partition and install a new version of windows every year or two. Though that might be a bit above your head (it's really easy to screw stuff up).

It could still be Norton. Disabling it does not unload the file system driver Norton uses to intercept I/O calls. This kernal mode interceptor will still load and run at boot even if Norton is otherwise disabled. You must uninstall it and reboot to completely rule out Norton.
Note I don't think that it actually IS Norton - the graphics card driver is #1 suspect IMHO - but it could still be...
