I took a month off and went sailing in the San Juans, helped my mom move and went heads down on my book for awhile. DB is too addictive. It was ruining me. I had to go cold turkey. Perhaps now I can find a balance...
PurpleYouko:
So how is the book coming along?

I'm probably a little more than half done. I've got 70,000 words down, but what exists needs a massive consistency pass, I still have some serious plot issues to resolve and my characters need a lot more depth and work on motivation, espicially the bad guys.
I never imagined it would be this difficult to emphasize with and write from the perspective of characters who don't think like you do. You can't just make them evil just because their evil. You have to give them a set of really different motiviations and backgrounds, then have their actions and responses flow from that and be consistant. Do it right, and you have a believable bad guy. Do it wrong and you have a saturday morning cartoon. It's hard!
Numsgil:
Yeah, it is. I like to think I'm a little better at it than most, but to really be good at it you sort of have to put yourself in a kind of limbo, where all viewpoints are valid. Problem is if you stay too long it makes making any decisions at all impossible
Hmm, that sounds a little mataphysical, doesn't it. Ignore the crazy man in the corner.
